Default I must be an idiot - Help with brake pad removal

Front 993TT brake calipers installed on my 964T.

I popped the spring retainer, pushed back the piston, but I cant pull the pad out. I can rock it back in forth but it won't move vertically. I tried pulling from the top and pushing from the bottom.

WTF am I doing wrong?

ah, there's an antisqueal thingy in there that has little buttons that hook up on the pistons. Look at the back of the pad on the metal very closely and you should be able to see it - need to pry it loose form these shims - often it's quite baked on and you need a knife or something to gently pry it off....

Putty knife works good to break the anti squeal shims loose.

Thanks guys...just so I understand, I pry the putty knike between the caliper piston and the brake pad?

I thought P-car brakes were set up for quick change. Anti-squel shims seem strange to me.

no, not between the caliper piston and brake pad - there is an 'antisqueal shim' - looks almost like contruction paper but stronger obviously, that can get stuck on the back of the brake pad - so between this shim and back of brake pad - look closely.....you need to pry this off the back of the brake pad - it has a button on it that goes into the caliper piston, holding it from moving around and keeping you from removing the pad/shim in one piece. once you pry this off, the brake pads themselves slides out easily.

I'll let you know how mine go in a few hours. I'm putting a set of Pagid Blacks on for a DE at Road America this weekend, my first tracking event, someone please put one back for me at some point over the weekend as I break my track cherry!

Are the Anti-squel shims to go back on with the Pagid pads? They don't mention anything on their site about them at all.

You need fresh ones every time, try without first and see how much it squeals.
