Another 993TT
Awhile back I posted about a friends TT I was trying to purchase, he decided to keep it
I found another at Roslyn porsche on LI, 97 993TT, 23K miles, 2 owners, asking~75k.
The car fax only turned up multiple emmissions failures. What do you guys think?

Chris,
Car Fax is useful for showing previous owners and correct mileage... very untrustworthy for accident repair. The price isn't out of line for a low-mileage 97 TT... if everything is perfect... no stories. If the suspension is still stock, it's probably ready for replacement by now. The clutch should be fine unless the car was poorly driven. Be sure to check for the usual suspects: leaky steering rack, leaky clutch slave cyl, and corroded aux fan resistors. Look at the insdie of the intercooler hoses for tale-tell signs of oil blowing past the turbo seals. At this price, the car should pass a PPI with flying colors, and the owner should fix anything that isn't perfect. The car is almost due for the 30k service... expensive. Perhaps you can negotiate getting the service done (at owners expense) while the PPI is being performed.
Good luck on your quest. BTW, I'm sure you've noticed that you "could" buy a 996TT for about the same money. For me... I'll take the 993TT anyday in a heartbeat, but the 996 is actually a better choice for some folks.

Price seems a bit high to me. Maybe if it is an absolutely perfect car but seems on the high side. As Steve points out for that kind of money you can get into a 996TT which may be of interest. If you mod a 996TT you can get more hp for the money. If you have your heart set on a 993TT do the PPI and the deal. They are great cars.
Good luck.

Popular opinoin seems this is a lot to pay even for a low mile 993tt, but I bought my 97 w/27k miles in November for what ended up being right about 70k. Shocks & clutch w/LWF are going to end up costing about 7k when all's said and done (which should be finished today). So really this thing has approached the 80 mark pretty quickly. I almost bit on a silver 97 with about 30, but I lost it trying to haggle the seller to 65k, he let it go to a buyer for 70k unseen, with PPI of course. Of course you'll pay a premium from the dealer, and havce to contribute to their bottom line. I bought mine from a dealer mostly becasue I had ants in my pants after a long search, but to do it again I'd buy from a private seller who was looking not to get screwed on their trade in, both parties can benefit that way. That's my $.02, take it for what it's worth. But at the end of the day you find yourself fretting over a few grand and it smells like the right car, give in to the little devil on your shoulder and don't complicate the issue by doing something foolish - like discussing it with your wife ;-)

I disagree - the 993tts are holding their value far better than the 996tts. The reasons are as following:
1 - Last of the air cooled.
2 - Last of the basically hand built cars.
3 - Far fewer 993tts produced than the 996tts.
These are the reasons that I've seen as documented on this and other boards. In a couple of years the 993tts will start noticeably appreciating.
