Greetings from Englandtown, England.
Can any of you chaps advise me of a major headache insofar as my own beetle is concerned?
It has recorded 555bhp and nearly 600ftlb and is perfectly capable of liberty deprivation given the suitable attentions of our 'boys in blue.'
However, the amount of utter crap coming up through the helm is appalling: we thought that changing the 'harmonic' engine mounts for some hardened, 'motorsport' style items might cure the chronic effects of uber torque dissipation when coming orf the anvil at around 170 or so and indeed, I'm not entirely unsure that some benefit has not been gleened in this regard.
However, when one is scoping up socialists in the urban crawl, at say 40-60mph during 3rd or 4th gear saunters, that this vibrational manifestation is so easily sufferable makes for diabolical and frankly unnaceptable progress.
To the extent, that I have contemplated notions of defection to the 996GT2 and Houston dentistry c/o the 996 Turbo - but not before kamikaze notions of like some of you here - of 'going 2wd.'
Now, esteemed members aside who can actually drive, this part of Albion is plagued not only by our notorious levels of eternal precipitation but, easily the worst roads in Christendom.
UK council elders (commie dogs to a man) are duty bound to pursue policies of road encrumblement and under such conditions, the concept of my Triassic jelly mould actually staying vaguely forward of moment seem as likely as a heroic reclaimation of No.10 by Baroness Thatcher.
Thus what in the name of Bonepart's ***** am I to do? IS there in existence, something which might allow the grippage of the old 4wd system to prevail but banish forever these infractions of absymal vibrato?
Danker, DeR.

My answer might be OT, it seems to me like you are having a problem with chassis vibration (your car too). I don't see why you would need to go very stiff (it is about the car), you can have a perfectly handling car with only a couple of changes in the chassis components, and you would hardly feel any difference in comfort.
Make sure you have an excellent kinematic toe adjustment done.
Weren't you guys in the UK having some sort of private shootout, other than the upcoming VMax?

Thanks chaps,
Jean, thanks for the quick l'histoire tutorial, my studies went somewhat west after the 1618-48 war but I will relay your thoughts to my techie fellow.
Bob, my car has a racey GT2 clutch assembly configured by a mob called Tech9 in the UK whose proprietor is a successful bod in the Porsche GT series.
It is a single mass job and it was suggested to me yesterday that in theory this could account for some if not all of the shake..?
Therefore, I am putting the dual job back in as the car reconfigures itself back towards Lexian sedantry.
I'm sure life would be much easier with something from Sant Agata.

The shootout is coming, it's being arranged by Chris Harris who writes in GT Purely Porsche (there will be a feature in the mag.) and he also writes for Autocar Magazine.
There is a good selection of cars 993GT2's, 996 GT2, 993TT so it should be a blast! Will be sometime in March or April so will keep you posted. TB is aware of it, surprised he hadn't let you know.

RS thanks for the update. I saw it on PH right after I asked. IN fact TB sent me an email sometime back asking me if I would be willing to participate, but I have my own shootout here in 2 weeks so it will not be possible, plus the Weiltmeister, 9M etc.. are very serious competition, here, I will just be competing against a few EVOMS, RUF, Gemballa and a few Supras and Skylines...Piece of cake
DeR turns out Bonaparte is the only word I understood from your post with my very challenged english language, seems like it was a clutch issue!!

The thing that bothers me is I understood his post completely.
Kind of like the old Monty Python skit where the WWII pilots couldn't make out one's banter.
BUT I spent my formative years in Southern Blighty, (home of the Mangel Wurzel).
He is most diffinitely not speaking Cockney, it is "Erudite Twit."

Reinstalled the dual mass flywheel and the difference is unbelievable.
Changing gear like a hot knife through butter, makes for effortless progress at urban speeds and one enormous side benefit is the elimination of a sense of 'edginess' which previously made me uncomfortable about excess aggression when cornering.
This 'transmission compliance' means that cornering is done with similar vigour as per the 408 car but of course, there's still that killer surge flying forwards.
So seven years on, I love the car more than ever: they are truly special vehicles.
