Default 1996 993TT with salvage title, what is the deal?

1996 993TT is Midnight Blue Metallic/Tan....dealer says it had previous interior fire in the right rear seating area but has been repaired.
It supposedly runs/drives great.
Has pss9 suspension upgrade and 2004 TT wheel upgrade
also 3 spoke steering wheel upgrade
high mileage 118k

anyone know this car? any stories, is it a good "bottom picker?
What do you think? What should someone pay for it if it were to change hands?
says its a Midwest car.

what would you pay for a no-stories 118k mls car with that interior color?

expect clutch and turbos to be changed if not done yet. (~5K)

Do not buy the car without a good PPI.

Should be a good track car for the right price.

If everything checks out, you have the wear items as mentioned by Stummel, but you also have a permanent black eye with the salvage title. A salvage title makes these cars very hard to resell. Assuming the clutch and turbos are good, and the valve guides are OK, and with a clean title this is a $50 to $55k car. Now start subtracting for the likely wear items. Now compute about 65% to 70% (just my guess) of that value for the value with a salvage title. My guess is the seller thinks its worth a whole bunch more. Keep us posted.

the seller is asking $46,500.

he says it is in "drivers condition"
does this mean it is in need of some TLC? like the clutch/turbos/valves?

Not worth looking at if it is over 40K. Trying to sell it will be tough and you have absolutely no idea what you are going to find with a "interior fire".

I think Ploglet is right on. Lets run some numbers: Assume the car looks great, and checks out fine. Fair price could be $52,000. It will probably need $5k to get it right, so the car should sell for $47k. The salvage title gives it a 70% value... $32,900 should be your target. Even $35k would be OK.

Common 993 wear items are: leaky steering rack, leaky hydraulic clutch slave cylinder, aux fan resistors get corroded, and valve guide wear. Turbos, clutch, brakes (rotors/pads) need inspection. Check for oil leaks from engine and power steering pump. These are 10-year old cars and that one has over 100k miles. depending on its care and feeding, virtually anything in the car could be worn to a frazzle. Or not. Suspension rubber, wheel bearings, brake lines, all need to be looked over. Check the proper function of the heater control unit and on-board computer display. Be sure that EVERY warning light is active, and extinguishes itself. Listen for any "ticking" sounds from the engine. Feel for smooth clutch engagement WITH THE ENGINE OFF (tests the clutch accumulator). On and on.

I never owned a 911, but I love them and want to buy one.
Should I just look for a nice 993 natural aspirated and then install a TT kit , like a Prototech TT kit? they sell for $15k and give 450hp.
I have found several nice 993 cabs for 25k-28k, with low miles.
I might end up at around 40k when all is said and done, but albeit with a nicer quality car.
thoughts?

buy a good 993TT and get good PPI done to it first.
a 993 with twin turbo is not a 993TT from the factory unless you pour huge dollars into it!
when you go to sell (there always comes a time), you will not be able to give it away.
Buy the real thing, enjoy the real thing. Be realistic and unless you buy something that
has been gone thru recently (like I sold), set aside $5,ooo+ for "incidentals"
If you can barely afford one, you cannot afford one (for all I know you are the Sultan of Buenei??)
Good luck, the wait will be worth it!

If you see someone with a nice car on this board (there are too many too mention)
They probably have $80,000 US dollars into their car. (huge delta between 40 and 80).
not a cheap hobby...

If you're not sure about getting one. Don't test drive it, it's far more intoxiacting than driving several other cars, including some other 911 versions. This might sound like a joke, but it is not..
