Default Leak Down Test - failed!

Hi Everyone

My car has been running a little rough and a few days ago the CHECK ENGINE light came on, so I asked Porsche here in Melbourne to check it out. They did a leakdown test, and there was a lack of proper compression on a couple of cylinders!

The quote is around AU$5500!! Ouch

Who was it that mentioned the slippery slope?...

Don't forget the new connecting rods, flame rings, and dual plugs when you're in there!
Actually that's a real drag. Sorry to hear bout that.

Kevin, that's a bummer. If you are using a Porsche dealer get the service manager to check with the Porsche Service rep to see if they will pick up any of your bill. If not a dealer try and talk to him yourself. I had a carbon problem and a seat belt that didn't work and they picked up HALF the cost of both, just by asking! Saved about $4K. Never hurts to try.

Hi Again

It looks like just maybe the dealer that I purchased the car from will come to the party. Not sure what I will be up for now, but at least that is a good sign.

The leak down test revealed a couple of cyls were not getting the right compression but I am not technical, so I cannot tell you what they were getting... I only looked that the graph momentarily and saw that they were about half or just less than half of the others...

Now, while the engine is opened up... you guys mentioned doing a bunch of things... what things should I be doing?

Thanks in advance!

I'll start the list of possibilities:hybrid turbos from Kevin, head work, 3.8 P&C, cams, twin plug ignition, lightweight flywheel, stronger rods.

Even if you are going to leave it stock, I'd change the rod bolts, the valve guides, and the valve spring retainers to ones of better quality.

ca993twin, do Porsche make better ones now, or are there OEM parts I need? If OEM, what brands?

Thanks in advance!

911/Q45 - sorry I am as non-technical as it gets, what does 'head work' mean... in this context, that is

Kevin it is porting and polishing or fine hand machine work of your cylinder heads. It could include the install of larger valves..

Replace the stock rods with Carrillo's
Definately install higher lift camshafts
Twin plugging the cylinder heads is a plus

It's only money..
