pstoppani: Well 'Waldo' isn't here yet. He should be by next weekend. We should get together once I am back with 'Waldo'. So how about selling me those muffler-by-pass pipes?

The droning of the bypasses depends on the position of your head ;-)

No, really this is true. Move your head up or down and forth and back. For me it does make a huge difference in drone and loudness of the car.

Perhaps taller people hear them louder than smaller drivers????

I like that theory, being a smaller driver that does not hear the droning. We need lots of statistical samples. Who else?

5' 10" and have the seat as low as possible. Rear seat backrests are removed (which does allow more noise in) and have a DAS bar.

However, I'm getting GT3 seats so it will be interesting to see if they have an effect...

After more street driving, the drone is really only between 2800 and 3000 rpm. I tried moving my head as someone suggested, no effect. Anyway, by keeping out of that RPM range, the sound is quite nice!

I also have the mufler bi-passes and can hear my engine on the track and I agree that's very important. You can't can't just stare at the tach, you mght need to be situationally aware of the idiots around you.....

Pete if you haven't pulled the trigger on those seats yet try a real racing seat first....

Just got back from the track where I really liked the muffer bypass; I could actually hear the RPMS!

But, it is too loud for daily use for me, so back goes the stock muffler. It was a nice experiment and proved that if there was a muffler that had a bypass flap for track days, I'd be in heaven!

Pete, I think there are some inserts available that you can use to quiet the car down a bit.

For me, the car sounds just fine with bypasses but then again I'm a little deaf. The bypasses wont pass sound at Laguna but I had some turndowns made and wallah, they pass.

muffler bypass workes great for me, the only time it slightly resonates is on initial start up where it sounds really mean, then goes away when warm. not annoying at all on the road tho-just lets you know what the engine is doing like you want. They should work. you will be surprised how civil they are (at speed) for having no mufflers...bueaty of haivng turbos and cats still.

Thanks, I'm selling my bypasses and going back to stock muffler. I just wanted to try the quick solution and if that didn't work for me, to leave it stock. I definitely liked it at the track. My head hurts after a short drive around town though. I'm definitely more sensitive to the low frequency pulses...

God that GT is gorgeous! Sounds good too...

in german it is "Klappen-Auspuff".

Ruf makes those for the 993n/a. Perhaps someone makes them for the turbo?

It is like a stock muffler at low RPMs and like a muffler bypass at higher RPMs.
Best of both world, with no annoyed neighbors but fun at the track.
Problem is, as far as I know; it's hooked up with the rear movable spoiler on the N.A Carreras. So, in other words, it wouldn't work on the Turbo.

But perhaps they have another solution for the Turbo?!
