Paul,

Open the pictures with MS Paint, and go to the "image" pull-down. Use "stretch/Skew". put "30%" in both horizontal and vertical, and save the images as <namesmall.jpg> or whatever you like (don't overwrite your originals). Send those smaller images to me.

Paul,

I think the price is reasonable to good. However do not skip the PPI and FWIW do the leak down test too. I bought mine last Nov 2004, 21k clean PPI and had no problem since... none!

After checking the car thru CARFAX I'm passing on the black 97tt but the red 96tt seems fine (one owner 20K miles). When we pulled the 96tt out of the garage for a test drive I noticed a stream of engine oil under the car(maybe a couple oz).
I did not see where the oil was leaking from but it looked very clean and the car was not even warmed up, so I'm not sure if it's the valve covers or not. Is this common on a car thats not started and run very much?

Paul,

I wouldn't say any oil leak is common but can happen depending where its coming from. You are going to get a throrough PPI on the 96 TT right? If everything else checks out (exterior, options, etc.) to your liking then I would definitely invest in a PPI. I am no expert but just my .02

Good Luck

My 96TT just started leaking oil recently. It has 68,000 miles on it. It stops leaking after being driving and getting good and hot. It will start leaking again if the car isn't used for 5 or 6 days. I believe its coming from the valve covers. On the TT, the repair will require removal of the turbos (I think). All-in-all, this is probably a $1000 issue, but can be done yourself (again, I think).

PaulF1,

What did you find on CARFAX that caused you to rule out the '97? If the car has changed hands several times, that isn't uncommon for these cars.

CARFAX found an inconsistent odometer reading. CARFAX is uncertain whether this is a rollback or a source-level clerical error.
This most likely is a clerical error but I dont want to take that chance, if I ever go to resale it would just make it harder for me to do so.

If the 96TT checks out on the PPI what would be a fair price? The owner is asking 72500.00.
And should I get the leakdown/compression?

Paul, certainly it has some other options like, 12 way, or sport seats, Carbonfiber, aluim. door sills or gauges. Depending on what its options are the car I'm guessing $67-71k would be a deal if the ppi checks out and the oil isn't anymore than 1000. On the other hand, the owner if knowledgeable about where these cars are selling could hold firm and get what he wants in time IMO, but he wuld have to fix it.

I will be posting pics of the red 96TT sometime Thursday, I will get Int and Ext pics. I'm not to sure what options the car has but maybe after veiwing someone could help me with that.
Also I will have the PPI done this week do I need the Leakdown/Compression Test? (Less than 20K on car)

Thanks,
PaulF1
