Fabspeed problems
I donīt understand which Fabspeed parts I have to buy to get a better sound.
Do I have to buy both the 993TT Catback Exhaust w/4.5" Oval Polished Tips $1150 and the 993TT Cat Bypass Pipes $1595 per set, or is it enough with the 993TT Catback Exhaust w/4.5" Oval Polished Tips $1150?
Is the 993TT Sport Exhaust Muffler Bypass $550, just endpipes?
Can someone please explain this to me?
Best regards
Jonas

Jonas,
It really all depends on your taste. I can only speak from my experience. I have the Muffler Bypass pipes and they sound GREAT! on their own. Loud and deep but still great.
I am still not 100% happy with the bypass pipes as they are over the legal db limit here by a long way..... (the other advantage is losing a LOT of weight from the rear of the car)
As for the CAT by passes and a combination of the cat by passes and the mufflers - some people on here regard them better sounding.....
Please chime in guys???
You could always check out the website - they do have sound clips.

Muffler Bypass is good enough for most people, although several here have sold them right after installing b/c they thought they were too loud.
I love they way they sound, but I have less then 1000 miles on them and they are already turning yellow from temp. cycles. I would like to know if they would excahange them personally. For $550 you think they would keep the stainless color longer than that.....

Jonas,
The cat bypass pipes will provide quicker turbo spool up and result in improved acceleration times. The sound with the cat bypass pipes / stock mufflers will be only slightly louder (but good) and the performance gain is real. If you add a performance exhaust such as the RSR, etc., the sound will be very loud and IMHO not that great either (but this is a very subjective). The cat bypass pipes eliminate a huge restriction in the exhaust system. I would suggest installing the cat bypass pipes only....with the stock exhaust. This is what I did and I was extremely pleased with the result.

I have to agree with Tom - even though they can be cleaned up with Autosol or the like - you would think that $550 would get a better product than that ! Imagine if you paid my exchange rate and then added shipping here - EXPENSIVE for something that loses its "look" fast......(and doesnt really have any real components....)
Just my $0.0001123 worth....

Are any of the mod's described above "legal" in California? What happens when it is time to pass the smog test? Reinstall original parts?
From what I have heard the RSR does not cause a smog test problem in Californis.

Tom 993TT,
Muffler bypasses are fully legal in California. Cat Bypasses are very illegal. Sports cats may pass the sniffer, but may not pass the visual (if they look).

The check they do in Tennessee is actually pretty basic. Hold a mirror under the car for about three seconds, etc, etc... I actually had one guy who put the mirror under the middle of the car and said, "Yep everything looks great!!"
If you had the cat bypass pipes do you really think they would catch you? Will the emissions still pass with no cat, or is that the catch? It seems if our cars still pass the exhaust inspection and it only comes down to a visual then most people would NOT know what they are looking at under the rear of our cars....
Any thoughts?
I just hate the thought of buying these suckers and having to put them off again/on again every damn year for a few HP.
Thanks
Robert

Jonas,
You have to remove the mufflers to install the muffler by pass pipes. These pipes are essentially long exhaust tips that connect directly to the output side of the catalytic converters.
