Default Help! - lots of oil in engine..

The car has been in the shop and i got a call today saying that the entire left side of the engine is covered with oil. They have to remove the turbos and valve covers to fix the oil leak. They say the turbos are fine, but covered in oil.

The car was checked in nov and it was fine when i had new diverter valves installed. I dont know what to think.
What questions should i ask?
What else should i make sure they inspect and/or fix while they are in there?

Any estimates of what this should cost and how much work this is?

Are they only pulling the left-side turbos? If they are going to pull both sides, its time to ask yourself about the expected life span of your turbos, and your thirst for more HP. What I'm trying to say is that this could be the opportunity to get Kevin to rebuild your turbos (or exchange) for some much higher output units. The cost is reasonable, and hell, you've already got the damn things off!

Be careful... its a slippery slope out there.

They are pulling both turbos. First guess is that the turbos are fine (i already asked), bu im concerned that they said lots of oil on the left side of the engine. What else should i tell them to check ?? - i dont understand valves and headers enough to know
Is this an opportunity for that header mod??
Sorry to be so non-technical ...

If the "header mod" is the grinding of the mismatched pieces, then I think that the consensus is that it helps a little with a stock turbo, but helps a lot when generating bigger hp than the stock turbos are capable of. How many miles on your car? Any oil in the intercooler?

My car has 67,000 miles, and the turbos still are doing fine. I'm anxiously awaiting the day when I have no choice but to get the engine out, and do the LWF/clutch and the hybrid turbos. My left-side valve cover gaskets leak if I don't use the car for a week or so. After driving it, the leak stops. Its my Porsche's way of telling me to drive it more.

Maybe a lose boost pipe leading up from the turbo to IC. That was the cause of my engine being covered in oil.

I guess they are shriveled up from old age. The expansion when warm helps them seal up for a while? I dunno. But new gaskets are called for. Try taking it out and really getting it warmed up. Then park it and see if the dribble is stopped. That's how it works for me.

On my car the hose was slightly lose where it went onto the turbo. I've fixed another (at a track) that the top was lose. You may also simply have a split in the hose. The amount of oil that comes out of the boost pipe if it's open to atmosphere is incredible!
