Default Had to take 993TT to work today - now it's snowing...

My SUV is in the shop so I needed to take the TT to work today. The snow held off for most of the day but now we're beginning to get some accumulation. I live about 14 miles away. Is there any chance I could safely drive the car home in the snow or should I just leave it here at work?

Dr,
You do know your 993 TT is AWD don't you so yes it would be OK just be careful esp around the corners and wash the car when you get home esp the under carriege and the wheel wells..
& be warm

Hey Doc, it's 4 wheel drive isnt it? I would imagine they drive them in the snow all the time in Germany. But what do I know, I'm on So Cal where it's 85 today.....

With high performance tires and accumulated snow, I would not attempt (had a C4 with all seasons which did ok here in Denver).

My 2001 Audi TT 225 had the quattro system. With the stock tires the car was a sled - little to no control stopping in the snow - with snow tires it was amazing even with accumulation. I'm running high performance tires on the 993TT so even with the AWD I'm a bit nervous.

Please, please, please DO NOT drive it today if you have performance tires.
I got caught in the snow in novemeber (first snow in Ct this season) -only 1-2 inches.
i was going 30mph in a straight line and the car became a sleigh and i almost killed myself and would have been looking for another TT.. fortunately no other car was around.
Take a taxi home and leave it at work.
Unless you want to file and insurance claim and see a good body shop, it really isnt worth it. The AWD does not matter if you dont have the right tires.

Agreed, awd doesn't do anything to help it stop. I find that stopping is the bigger issue when driving my 993 without proper tires.

It's a risky proposition but all depends on how careful/experienced you are driving under these conditions.

I agree with Rob. The first year I owned my TT, I got caught at the office with the TT and high performance tires when it snowed, I drove home late at night and skated dangerously around turns. In a straight line it was fine, except when road bumps and imperfections destabilized the car, then the back end would fishtail, and the front wheels would pull it out. Take a cab if you can, or at least wait until most of the traffic is off the road, but be prepared for a white knuckle ride. Good luck!

Use lots of throttle, and keep the car sliding, that way it won't surprise you when it breaks loose.

I crashed my Audi S4 some years back I lost traction on a patch of sand while in a turn. I spun out in my STI (also AWD) last year when I got a little throttle happy on cold performance tires. AWD can't help bad judgment

I agree,4 wheel drive or not,the car is absolutley useless in the snow w/regular tires, and if its lowered...forget about it. I was stuck on rt 17 last spring when a snowstorm hit,I was sliding all over the place....Had to call aflat bed..to much of the glee of passerbyes......!!

Your Turbo may have 4WD, but the car behind you, sliding uncontrollably on black ice towards you, does not have 4WD. So, why take the risk and regret it?

The car itself can handle snow without any problems.
It's all about the tires and how you drive.
