Lightbulb 993 vs 964

I have a 92 964 T. Interested in 993 T. How does the 993 T compare to the 964 T in ride, performance, versus cost?

Viperbob would be the expert as he had both, raced both and modded both.

2WD vs 4WD.
Single Turbo vs. Dual-Turbo

Just those two things above makes a clear difference. So my suggestion is either find a friendly car salesman (..yeah right..) or a nice Rennlister. Try their 993TT and compare it to you 964T.

I do believe TCO is lower on a 993 than a 964. But in the end, it all depends on that unique car you find and what needs to be changed/fixed/modded.

I had a 1992 turbo, I thought it was a 930, am I wrong or are we talking about different cars?

If we are talking about the same car, my experience between the two is as follows:
My 1992 came with a boost controll box when I bought it. I removed the cats and had a free flowing exhaust. I don't know the HP but it was a rocket. When I bought my 993 it was stock, and I was not happy with the acceleration. The 993 is heavier. After extensive mods the 993 is now faster than the 92 turbo.

I am sure that the 993 handles better with the AWD, but race drivers (which I am not) may say different.

Both cars are fast, and can be made super fast. I think the 92 is cheaper to make faster.

It would boil down for me to which car makes your heart jump when you walk into your garage.

There are a lot of threads in this forum and the 911 turbo one that discuss this subject. I have both, and if I would keep both I could. 3.6 964T is unbeatable for the looks, and for the animal in it, even in 4WD mode like mine. A modded 3.6 can kick the stock 993TT's butt and even the 996TT. If you go EFI, for $10-12k you can reach dream hp levels and great drivability.

The 993TT is a much better car, as far as handling, smooth power delivery and reliability. The 993TT can very easily be modded to get 50hp more. Some of them reach 700 hp with an ecu upgrade alone! (joking! )

They are both great, you cannot go wrong with either.

MY SENTIMENTS ARE THE SAME AS CLIFFS, MY MODIFIED 91
TURBO FELT FASTER THAN MY STOCK 993 TWIN TURBO. ONCE
MODIFIED I LIKE THE 993 TURBO BETTER (OVERALL DRIVABILITY
AND LOOKS!). THE 91, 92 AND ESPECIALLY THE 94'S ARE SURE
FUN TO DRIVE, THOUGH AND THEY SOUND GREAT.
