Great exhaust sounds are just not possible from a turbo car. Its going to be a compromise. The bypasses allow us to hear our exhaust a bit, but it does get quieter as the turbos spool up. Headaches? I have a hard time imagining that, unless they are being used in conjuction with cat bypasses or race cats. Ask Scott Mellor about THAT combo!

Is anyone running gutted stock mufflers with stock cats? I was wondering how that sounded?

I was told to cut open my mufflers myself with a die grinder, take all the packing out and then take the pieces down to any muffler shop and have them weld it back together. How's that for an idea?

A guy in my local club did just that and I thought it sounded pretty boatlike.

I have a Cargraphic Cat Bypass and RSR mufflers. I think it sounds great with a unique mechanical sound similar to the older 2.7's back in the day. Most important, no resonance at low RPM cruising speeds. Not as loud, and not as mean as the muffler bypasses, but you will surely notice the difference hand over fist verses the stock exhaust.
