I am in the midst of the addictive process of modifying my stock 993tt,
I have a stock 1996 993tt. I purchased a 97 ecu and my shop has chosen
protomotive to do the programming. I have decided on kevin's gt1/hybrid
with full porting/polishing, ceramic impellors, k-24 stuff cnc'd into my
housings, etc. I will also have hi-flow exhaust system, and viper bob's
lightwt flywheel clutch assembly. my question is: am i going to need an
auxillary boost controller to help control the boost of my new turbos or will
the 97 ecu do the job? how do i know i am not getting too much/little boost?
thanks for all the great, knowledgeable advice, i can't wait to kill some vipers!

Marty,
Atta boy! Someday, as things wear out, I hope to do at least some of that stuff. I'd love to hear some dyno numbers. Can you get a baseline run while stock? Then get additional runs as stuff gets added?
Boost control? I don't even know what that is. Sorry.

Look seriously at the Greddy line, they are the best. There manual B/C start at 125.00.....then... turn it up !! enjoy.
Your tuner should keep you alittle on the rich side, but an A/F gauge ( with wide band 02 sensor ) is a sweet addition to be safe.

I had the same work done on my car by Devek and Viper Bob. I have a Greddy boost controller. According to Bob it basically gives the ecu one less thing to think about, making it more efficient. It also lets you fine tune the boost.

Protomotive software uses external electronic boost controllers. I have their software and it works well. In an ideal world the factory frequency valve would be used. Boost control can and will vary with turbos, exhaust etc. This is where the greddy boost controller shines. You can adjust it to control boost spikes & total boost. Another advantage is the abilty to change boost for fuel types. I like to run 1.2 bar on race gas and 1.0 bar on pump gas.

Todd can probably set it up for you to work internally with out a boost control if you prefer since it's a 97 ECU. Mine has the Greddy controller because the 96 ECU wasn't cooperating without it. K-24 is correct about the hi-lo abilities of the controller for pump vs race gas, it's a bitchin feature.. If you choose internal control and your concerned about watching boost(I think you should be) you can install an external boost gauge. Do a search of "external boost gauge" and you'll find some threads discussing brands and installs.

Seege,
Would you mind taking pics of your ProfecB setup when you get the chance? This thread really has piqued my interest in an external b/c for my car.
Thanks!
