As far as I know, Ferdinand Porsche created the first AWD for Jacob Lohner, an Austrian manufacturer. This was done right after Ferdinand left "college" and desided not to follow the family business and go into cars instead. This car had an engine that powered a generator who acted as a power supply to two small electric engines. One for the front, and one for the rear. Also there is another design mentioned, that Ferdinand made. Almost the same design, but with one electric engine per wheel. Ferdinand later got fired from the Lohner company, since he made too expensive cars.
However, I believe the first AWD Porsche was shown 1981 at the Frankfurt motorshow, and it was a 911. Can't really find a picture of it though....![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
In 1984, Porsche won the Paris-Dakar in a AWD 911. (Don't know if it's a Turbo)
