Thanks Jean,

So if i understand the unit correctly. The xede is one way to upgrade the ecu, correct?

I guess it depends on what you mean by upgrade. Xede allows you to fool the stock ECU into doing things it normally won't (under its normal programming), so it masks what the ECU see as far as the IAT, MAF, TPS, etc. Its a cool little box, and in some cases it is a good alternative to a complete stand-alone system. However, if your upgrades are mostly bolt-ons, you may be better served with reprogrammed ECUs from many of the tuners. The advantage of a re-programmed ECU is that in most cases, it will drive like a stock car, just faster.

The biggest concern I would have with any piggyback solution is that if the ECU is "too smart" and learns around the modified signals. I dont know about the Motronic, but some of the newer cars may go into limp mode if it sees conflicting data from MAP and MAF sensors, or if the IAT is unrealistic, or if the engine load is too high/low for a given TPS.

The Xede is very similar to the unichip, but can be re-programmed via a laptop.

I thought they would be which was why I emailed.

If selling there products is the 'core' business, then not anwering an email with the subject, [i want to buy an xede unit for my porsche] is not good.

If you did managed to get one, what would the support be like if you ran into trouble?

Lets assume a drive train loss of 25% then this ecu with BOV and 100 octane race gas makes around
546 hp at the crank with a "stock" motor. A new high in snake oil.

What a shame you wasted all that money at Andial, when you could have just done this Jim!

I should have calculated the driveline loss at 18%, which would translate to 500hp at the crank. Not what I would want for an endurance engine. The problem with this type of tuning is the heat from running so much lead and over spinning the turbos with boost that it will cause engine failures if you are doing any prolonged track use.

The good thing about 993tt engines is, the factory raced this engine. They developed all kinds of go fast parts. Do you think that the soft ware engineers at Bosch, Weissach, and Thielert missed something? I'll stick with what won races.

The guys at Vishnu are very good tuners! I have delt with them numerious times when tuning my Audi. I believe the XEDE is going to be a great tool in fine tuning the 993tt. Remember that this is a signal modifier that tricks the ECU into delivering the desired AF ratios, timing and boost. The real desirable feature of this device is the abilty to have dual programs (pump/100 oct) via a toggle switch. If you use race gas then you have no idea what kind of power you are giving up by not having it tuned for the fuel.

Here is the downside. The cost is $2,500 for the unit and two programs. They have to cut into the factory wiring harness to intecept the singals. When asked why they sell the same XEDE to the subaru guys for $895 I was told its because its a Porsche. http://www.vishnutuning.com/xede_wrx.htm

I don't support that kind of logic. When going to the grocery store do they adjust pricing based on your income?

Signal modifying is nothing new. Do your homework and you will find many other devices that will allow you to fine tune your setup.
