Default Fabspeed Question

I'm in process of installing the bypass. (only have one side done, i couldn't get the wheel nut loose on the other side. I had to get the wheel off to take the muffler off.)

The question is, how close can i put the bypass tip to the bumper?? My car is lowered and my garage sits kinda high so i scrape the pipe if i'm not careful, so i want to place alomost flush to the bumper. Is this gonna warp the bumper or anything from the heat??

Any thoughts wil be appreciated....

Ray

You can get it right up there and you will be fine. The turbo has that extra metal band at the point where the tip comes out anyway that will help protect the muffler...

Thanks Bob...

Any it is okay to have the muffler space so empty?? Would dirt and debris damage the turbo sitting unprotected???

Ray,

I had my tips pointing upwards by mistake as I had the car elevated and I was underneath when I was trying to make things balanced between the two tips and flush with the bumper cutouts. When I lowerd the car back down it looked funny since the tips were angled upwards...Just thought I'd offer my opinion, but I guess in your situation its better than having them scrape the ground.

I have the same problem with respect to driveway etc. I angle my tips up as much as possible, and I can JUST get in my driveway if I go at the exact right abgle. No damage to the bumper or anything else.

BTW you dont need to remove the wheel to remove the muffler. Should be able to just jack the car up to remove it.

Get a nice jack. Sears has a sale for their 2 ton jack. $167. Nice.

Slightly OT but i am going to need to install my new by pass pipes soon too!!!!

Ive been looking for a new floor jack too - and want a cool Aluminium one but they are way out of my price range ( and ive spent all my $$$$ here already) and was going to buy one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

and bring it back with me (along with half of the 2nd hand porsche parts in the US!!!!) BUT am curious to see if anyone has any experience with something similar?

Dont want to lug the thing half way around (literally) the world if it is ****ty???

Simon,

Check out AC hydraulic lifts and their cool jack stands. I have both. I am very happy with them. Some of the other Rennlisters have them as well. The lifts are not aluminum, but they work well.

This is where I got them:

make sure you look at the lift height. IMHO, 17 3/4 inches is not high enough. You need 19 " minimum.
