Default GT2 Clutch

Hey guys. Haven't posted in a while... been extremely busy. Anyway, my clutch is starting to slip when the turbos spool in 3rd and higher gears. Is the GT2 clutch (Street version) w/ lightweight flywheel worth the money?

Yes.

I'm very happy with that upgrade.

How much is the cost for the complete package? I know it's heave and for me it's better take a trip to US, pick the parts and take it to my country as a hand bag than pay for the shipment . I know Bob had an offer a few months ago and would like to know where to get a great price for the kit.

Give Bob a call. I have no idea how much it is now.

The Turbo kit runs $1650. It includes the current GT2 pressure plate from Sachs (1100 NM or 800 lb ft. This is a new model from last year with much more clamping force) along with a special clutch disc that allows for complete streetability and plenty of friction for even the higher HP cars.. It comes with everything else needed including the Porsche LW Flywheel, GT2 throw out bearing, and a number of odds and ends to complete the job along with a new Rear Main Seal. If you are going to do it, and as long as you are there the RMS is good idea.......

Viperbob,

I was told by Turbo Performance Center about 2 versions of the GT2 Clutch Kit w/ lightweight flywheel from Porsche Motorsport. A street version that is good up to 560hp at the flywheel and a race version that will hold up to 800hp+. They said the street version is a little more forgiving on the street w/ less noise and chatter when starting off. TPC quoted me a price of $2200 & $2400 for the kits and $1100 in labor. What are your thoughts and is the above info accurate? If so, I think I might want to go w/ the street version since track time is limited with the majority of the cars time being on the street and autocrossing. Thanks for your time.

Bull, I use the higher clamping force pressure plate in all my 993TT kits. There is NO noise at all with this setup on the street. Zero, non, nada... There is also no compromise with the hydraulic clutchs in our cars. I always tend to use the better components in my kits. This gives better flexibility should a customer choose to add more HP in the future, they will not have any issues with the clutch. The 800 lb ft torque (this is how it is rated) model has a list price of $1200. So while it is expensive, I sell enough of them that I am able to use it in my kit at a realistic price. The cost to change the clutch, is within reason as it is a 10ish hour operation....

Also, it is the pressure plate in concert with the clutch disc that gives you the lockup.... Make sure you get a good disc.

Viperbob - any reason NOT to do this upgrade when a new clutch is needed?? Does it vibrate or noisy when idle?? or cause any other inconvienence in slow city driving?

There is NO reason not to do it with our cars. The only downsides to heavy duty pressure plates are that they can be annoying in a Normally Aspirated car because of the pedal pressures. With our power assisted clutches, you will not even notice a difference in pedal resistance (which in some ways I miss a heavier clutch pedal). As far as noise is concerned, that is a function of the LWF and the transmission. There may be some minor gear rattle at idle with the clutch out. If you fill the diff with Mobil 1 the noise will be minimal or non-existant....

How are you enjoying the car Rob?

Take bob's advice and fit the 800lb Unit,

I fitted 2(Two) of the 560Lb ones and they both slipped.

After doing the job for a third time I opted for the stronger unit, No difference in peddle pressure, no more noise, and NO more slipping.. Yippee

Like bob says, the slight chatter of gears is the LWF not the clutch.

enjoy
