Default Price feedback on a 97 TT. Please

Gang:

I have a buddy who has several Porsches. He is looking to sell one to make a little room (tough huh). He has zero computer/internet literacy (his words) so I am helping him out.

He has a 97 TT, Gaurds Red, Tan with only 15k miles. He is thinking 78k for the car. Is he off base? The local $tealer just sold a Black Black certified one with 27k miles for 72,500.

I have searched around and the prices are all over the place. He would like a realitivly quick sale but is not going to give it away.

What do you guys think? I am going to help him put together a web page for Autotrader, Car.com, Ebay and of course here.

I think that $78k is a bit steep, especially without a warranty (like that certified car you mention). In my mind that black car was very fairly priced, especially with a warranty. Your buddy's car, even with slightly less miles, is probably about the same ($72.5), or even a touch less. Things that may raise the price are options such as sport seats, carbon fiber, or great after market wheels. Anyway... my opinion, fwiw.

Steve:
That was my thought as well. I need to get a full option list on it so we can fine tune the price.

Anyone else have thoughts?

Default A comparison

Looked at a '97 one owner with 18,000 miles with great color combo and well optioned....it was to be certified and have new clutch, flywheel etal...oh new tyres and brakes had been fitted......it sold sight unseen for $75,000 while I was on a extended test drive; April of 2004

I had a firm offer of $72,000 on the table with check in hand.......a non-porsche type bought it.....I refused to match $75,000....poor timing...the dealer, who was an old friend ( or so I thought ) would have taken $72,000 or so he opined as I left sadly that day........

Hope this is helpful

Berkley,
What a coincidence that someone called while you were out test driving the car and then they wanted you to match the other offer.Trust me it happens a lot and infact it hapened to me once too and i simply walked away from the dealership.I think they should have honored you first as you were already there but you know what they say about the car dealers in general, right ?

I paid about 4k less for mine with 11k miles, blk/blk 97 TT in pristine condition, aluminum trim, heated 12 way adjustable seats. The main thing was this car was absolutely pristine. When I had the suspension modded, all the running gear, suspension arms and engine looked like they barely saw daylight.

I've been having some doubts about my own estimate in the earlier post... thinking I was shooting a bit too low. I have seen Mike H's car, and it looked like it just rolled out of the showroom floor. Still, not everybody is as patient as Mike, and he did buy his car in the dead of winter, when sports car pricing usually takes a tumble. Being summer time now, your buddy may be able to get $74k or so... but he'd have to be patient and advertise the car well. It does seem that silver and black cars are the easiest to sell.

Steve:

My thoughts as well. Red with Tan is harder to mover. Red with Black might be easier.

The fact that it is red makes it worth less in my eyes. Depending on the options list, $78K might not be that high from what I saw when I was looking, as it is low mileage.

Very clean SY/Black 97 TT w/ 15K miles and 2/100K Porsche warranty just sold for $76.5K from local dealer which I thought was a fair but not great price...car was in great condition. W/O warranty I would have subtracted $2-3K and another $3-4K if it was a private party sale. For a GR/Tan (which some would argue is not the most popular of colors) with low miles, I think $68-70k would be where bids would come in at. I would guess that a dealer would offer him $64-65k for it.

I dont see ANY 97 TT's with low miles (15k or lower) for $70k. Does anyone know of any for sale at this price?
