Forget about maintenance. My maintenance bills over 15 years ownership are miniscule compared to insurance costs. Drive 'em all and pick the one you like best. I haven't driven any Porsche or Italian/ British super car I like better than my 993tt but that's just me.

It's tuff to compare a 993 turbo to a 996 turbo or 997 turbo, I drove a few later water turbo's and it's not the same feel or experience. Definately insurance cost more on a 993 turbo than maintenance.
There’s nostalgia to the old turbos they are all special to drive from the 930,964 to the 993. The 993 has much less turbo lag than the 930 and 964 due to the twin turbos. Also the old cars literally feel like driving a go kart. They are small and nimble and quick. Not quick compared to the new cars but definitely more than you need to have a good time. Not too mention the smell of petrol and oil you wear for the rest of the day after you drive one. I got tired of chasing the new stuff and bought a 993tt. Loved it so much I bought a 964 turbo and 939 turbo 6 months after. The air cooled turbos will always be special. The newer cars are special because Porsche tells us so with limited production on certain models. But at the end of the day the newer cars feel like a sedan with two doors. Too comfortable, too capable, too quick and too many Nannie’s. Also I would plan on setting aside $50-75k to sort the car out and about a years time at the mechanic.
But this one collector on youtube was saying that the 996 and 997 are terrible models, and the 993 is the last of the great air-cooled Porsches. Is there an element of truth to that or not? I think his main point was that the 997 Turbo is too fast for the streets and too boring, and the 996 is too weird and ugly. I mean, this guy is air-cooled through and through, but he does raise some good points. He's the "Rennthusiast" guy on youtube.
They are terrible if you are an air cooled kind of guy and think porsches shouldnt be watercooled but the 996/997TT mezger motor is very reliable
I do agree that the car is fast for the street. I had a tune on my otherwise bone stock 996TT and it kind of upset the cars handling because of the way the turbo came on. I flashed it back to stock as of now and it drives a bit better. Its still streetable, even with the tune but its very easy to run out of road and you're sailing way past 100+ if you dont pay attention

Funny that you say boomers stole from future generations, most of all 2024 GT3RS in my area are owned by young mens in their thirty's, so if a millenium can afford a half million $ Porsche they can afford two 993 turbo.
You should say boomers have better fell with older air-cooled Porsches and stole them from future generations.
