Default KM Odometer Broken

Hi,
Does the odometer in the 993 Turbo have the same specifications as the non-turbo 993? My friend owns a 1995 993 Turbo with a broken odometer. The needle functions properly, but the trip meter does not. Since his car is a ROW (Rest of World) model, it displays kilometers instead of miles. We're wondering if it's possible to purchase a US-spec odometer, have it refurbished, and modify it to display kilometers. Alternatively, is our only option to find a kilometer-specific odometer? Since he is located outside of the US, he would prefer to acquire a spare odometer to replace the existing one. Additionally, he would need to configure the total miles/km reading to match his car. Thank you in advance for your help.

Turbo speedo is 200mph standard is 180mph, they will work in either car, turbos all have the computer so they dont have the analogue trip milage so if his car doesnt have the computer he will loose that function

Sorry, I have mistaken. Confirmed with my firend. The Total Miles Meter on his speedo isn't working. I think that's the same for every 993t.

We have found a new speedo, Albeit expensive. It's the route he wants, He's trying to avoid down time. Can the total miles/km on the new one adjusted to match his current one?

There's no need to replace your friends speedometer at all. This is a VERY common occurrence with these cars and many shops can quickly replace the small broken plastic clog in the existing speedometer. If he's willing to ship it, North Hollywood Speedometer here in California does them all the time and you can pay to have it expedited.

Hope this helps...changing out a Speedometer creates a headache - especially if you want to sell the car later down the road.

Do a search on Rennlist - it's a relatively simple job for a good mechanic, and if careful a simple DIY. You can buy the gears on-line, do a search. I have done several, it's only an hour or two of work, the trickiest part is getting the cover off the speedometer - it's crimped on, but with patience it can be done nicely.

Cheers,

Mike
