New TT Mods/long post
OK Guys-I’ve been a member/addicted follower of this site for a while now and have recently obtained a (stock) 96 Arena Red 993TT. What a fun car!!! Ultimately I’d like to send it over to the Ruf facility to convert it to a Turbo-R, but with 2 kids in college that’s a few years away. In the meantime, I have some ideas on upgrades and would appreciate any comments/opinions/sources this community has to offer. I enjoy DIY projects and will be doing the mods myself. My first choice of sources is Rennlist sponsors.
The car will be mostly street use, with 4-5 DE’s/year thrown in (mostly Road Atlanta, with an occasional Barber Motorsports Park or Roebling Road as time off allows).
1) The nose needs to come off for a repaint to cover rock hits, while it’s off I thought that would be a good time to install an Aux oil cooler. I’m considering the Ruf or the Turbo S unit. Has any one had any experience installing/running these mods?
2) The suspension needs to be upgraded. I put in the ROW M030 on my C4S and am considering the PSS 9 or the RUF version of the PSS 9 for the turbo.
3) Rear sway bar-no preference here-what goes well with the above suspensions?
4) Exhaust-considering the Muffler bypasses, no real feel for which one to go for, I’m concerned that it might be loud enough to ring the DB bell during quiet times at Road Atlanta-has anyone in the Atlanta area installed one? I’d love to meet and listen to it.
5) Diverter valves-FVD vs Baily’s?
6) Anything else anyone has installed and felt it was a worthwhile improvement?
Thanks for your time and comments!

1.Hank a turbo S cooler is $750 but doesnt get you much
cooling. It was designed for 425HP you have 400 so
that $750 in my mind is not a cost effective cooler. the
cargraphics one is aroun$2K and is a bit much. I am looking
at a 300hp (additional) cooler core that you can install
that would protect you up to 600HP installing in the
drivers side scoop in the front bumper ahead of the air
condition condensor. if you can hold a couple weeks I hope
to do the fabrication myself and copy the parts for other
rennlisters. Target price $650
2. I just did Pss9 and they are great! For reference
CP on our list has a Ruf Turbo and converted his to
PSS9'sViperBob sold me mine
3 due to cost limitations I stayed stock. ViperBob can tell
you exactly what bars to use with PSS9 or JIC setups
4. I did muffler bypasses and I LOVE them so much throatier.
lost 75 lbs in weight too. no heistation here ViperBob sold me
mine.
5 I did the billet diverter valves too, low cost insurance for
your turbos.
My next mod is the cooler. once that is done I plan on
going to 500HP with a ECU upgrade from Promotive
cost $1000
after that upgraded turbos to go to 550HP 2.5K to $3K
and tweak to the ECU for bigger turbos -$100
thats my plan and I am sticking to it.
I may do a GT2 wing and some wheels but that is in a
galaxy far far away!!

I'll do 2, 3 and 5 since I just did those.
1. For suspension, I really, really like the RUF PSS9 I just put on my car. I took it to a trackday and really enjoyed the comfort on the way there and the handling on the track.
3. The RUF kit comes with a sway bar with two adjustment holes. They only replace the rear, but the handling feels perfect, just a touch of entry understeer, followed by a large neutral window, then power on oversteer if you desire.
5. Forge or Baileys work great. I had a Forge valve on my 964 Turbo which never had a problem. I used Bailey's on the 993 Turbo just because the local shop had them in stock and I had the intercooler off, so while I'm in there...

Adds a touch of vibration as well. The biggest difference that I found was that the rear end didn't feel sloppy/sloshy around turns anymore. I did this mod before I did my pss-9's and the difference was definately noticable.
Here's some more info on it: http://p-car.com/diy/motormount/index.html
And at about $300 for the mounts and bolts, this is one of the cheaper mods. You can get them from Gert here: http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p93114.htm
Bob has chosen to go the extreme route and used solid mounts. This was too much for me and I like the balance of the some rubber in the RS motor mounts.

A few thoughts on this. I cannot get the link to www.993tt.com/mods working anymore, but there was a very informative section about just this issue.
Yes these cars can make big power, but remember the intercoooler and oil cooler are going to determine if you can maintain that power and keep your engine happy
My car has GT2 turbos, FVD ecu, Cargraphics oil cooler, Andial intercooler, 5bar Regulator, etc etc. and while it has never been dynoed, my tech only estimates 480-500 horse.
The mods that make it a real joy to drive are the RS motor mounts, shifter and adjustable swaybar, the Bilstein Suspension and the LW clutch and Flywheel. The most important $ I have spent have been on the DEs to figure out what to do with it all

Thanks for all the responses! OG I'll look forward to your oil cooler adventure-I agree the S cooler seems inadequate for the money. I don't know how the Ruf cooler compares with it or the cargraphics model-anybody else know?
