USA only in 96 and 97, but apparently there are 95 and 98 turbos worldwide:

Default Turbo s

I could have sworn the number was 182 turbo s cars in 1997 for North America. Either way, I’ve had 3. Hopefully I’ll collect them all as see how many are left.

Yeah I've seen 182 Turbo S for USA quoted before too and something like ~360 worldwide production of 993TTS.

It's worth noting that they starting making the MY 96 TT for the US at a time that would traditionally be seen as MY95. I assume that they just wanted to certify them as OBDII once and not do an OBDI and then OBDII version (this part is speculation, weight it how you will). My wife's '96 TT was produced in March 1995, for example.

BMW did the opposite with the E36 M3 in the US- they ran '95 production from early '94 all the way to the end of the year 1995. My personal '95 M3 was made in October 1995.
