Question Kinematics advice please

tt steering slightly off centre so time for an alignment. Problem is only the dealers seem to have the levelling tool required to do the kinematics and of course their alignment prices are outrageous. Is it necessary to do the kinematics? How can you tell if they need to be done? Any advice you can shed would be very helpful.

Yes, it should be done. I am surprised that you cannot find an independent that has the tool - its not that expensive, and there are several replicas out there. You can get some weird handling characteristics out of the rear of the car if its not set correctly. I have seen some people eyeball it but I don't think that is good enough, especially if you plan to drive the car fast.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks Mike. I had so little luck on this forum I cross posted on the 993 forum. The responses there are pretty much in line with your thoughts. I presume this tool available from FD is the one you're referring to?

yup .. that is the one. Sometimes you can see it cheaper used or even on ebay etc, if you are lucky.

You've been a big help. I'll talk one of the indies into buying it. Thanks a bunch.
