Lightbulb Has anyone coverted a euro 993tt, good idea or bad? Cost?

I have located a car in Germany I want to bring in, its a '97 with OBDII, has anyone done this? (This is either a really good idea or really bad one) Resale is not so much a concern.

unless you are getting it for an obscenely cheap price, or if it is a rare car like a Ruf or a TT-S, I would not do it IMO.

Contact Wallace labs in Houston. They can give You all the details. You are much better off buying a 96 or 97 here, getting a 97 DME and having Knighton remap it to the 430 hp map. Way cheaper especially with the Euro where it is now. The cost to convert a car usually runs 5-10k sometimes higher and it cost 3-5 to get it here. That should give You enough to figure out whether or not to pursue it further.

There is no advantage to the Euro Turbos in terms of options, HP, suspension, etc. The price for these here in the US is pretty reasonable. With the US $ to the Euro right now, this sounds like a very expensive needless endeavor, and you would probably lose even more money when you try to sell the car sometime.

I agree with the others. Decide what aspects of a euro car that you like, and then just recreate it on a USA car. What specifically do you really, really want from a euro car?

I have a ROW spec 97TT. Other than the ride height and bumper guards (US spec), don't see much difference.
I believe Steve at Rennsport will be more than happy to help you with all your mod needs!

Good luck!

I like the color and the car seems to have low Kms on it is supposedly rebuilt at the factory. Its on www.carclassic.com I also don't think the dark green interior is readily available in the US market. (I know its weird but I like it.) Seems like the exchange rate may make the deal un doable. The EURO is on fire, also have seen the price of gold soaring, is the US $$$ going the way of the peso???

sparetireless,

If you really want, better do it now, cuz EURO's got another 7-10% to go... But really, not necessary.... unless you really care about your interior more than your $$$$! =)

Check with Chris on funcarsonline.com and he will give you all the reasons it's not realistic. That's what he does for a living. He lives near Frankfurt.
