Ruf TurboR stolen.
My friend's neighbor was the proud owner of a Ruf TurboR until about one week ago when it was stolen from in front of his friend's house in North Hollywood, CA. The car was in pristine condition with approximately 13,000 miles on the odo. It has no exterior changes and looks exactly like a standard 993 turbo except for badging, Ruf mirrors (look very similar to stock 993 mirrors except they mount at the window sill instead of on the door itself) and Turbo S front brake duct/fog light combo. The car is black on dark green leather (what I am told is a $$$ Ruf factory option) with chromed factory hollow spokes and is lowered. So far it is suspected that a member of the armenian mafia or a reputed russian car thief are behind the lift and according to the cops the car is most probably already out of the country. There is a reward to any info leading to the whereabouts of this car, so if you have any info please do not hesitate to either PM or email me. Guys, also please keep your eyes open for any high-dollar Ruf items that are going for dirt cheap or may be available by shady sellers who only deal cash transactions.

How is your friend holding up? I can't even imagine how he is feeling about this. Did he have the car unlocked or anything? Keep us updated on this on going story. Best wishes - Jay Gratton

Yes, the car was locked and alarmed although it was parked in the street. He left with his buddy whose house it was and went out to lunch for a little over an hour. Once they came back the car was gone without a trace, not even shards of broken class from a forced entry. The thieves knew what they were doing and apparently did not arouse any suspicion because the neighbors say they didn't see or hear a thing including the alarm which is still a mystery as to why it didn't go off. As for the owner, he's holding up fine and the car has a stated value with the insurance co. of $183,000 so I imagine he'll make out alright financially, but the car is truly irreplaceable. The worst part of it is, he purchased this car new in 1996 and had the conversion done in late 1999 so it was a truly virgin car. I asked him if he's going to replace it with something similar and he said he's looking at the current 911 Turbos but will probably wait for the next generation and then have the Ruf work done on that eventually as well.

duplicate key and alarm remote
Anybody know how difficult it is to add a extra alarm remote to the P93?
I would probably bet that the thief has a set of duplicate key and alarm remote. Depending on where the owner service or take care of the car, there has been known cases where the person that work on the car (knowing the value of the car) makes a duplicate key and remote. The advantage is that this person would also know the home address of the car. He might simply sell this key/remote to the car thief ring so that the car thief can decide themself when to take the car.
Car stereo installers have been known to have this problem.
Just make sure to take your car only to reputable place.

SOUNDS KIND OF FISHY IS YOU ASK ME !!! PS IF YOU OWN A PORSCHE IN THE STATES ESPECIALLY CALIFORNIA, YOU HAD BETTTER SLEEP IN YOUR PORSCHE. OR BETTER YET INSTALL THE JAMES BOND ALARM, YOU KNOW THE ONE THAT LOCKS IN THE INTRUDER AND THEN BLOWS THEM UP WITH THE CAR..

yeah... i'd be one to go for insurance as the best replacement. if it's stolen or wrecked... you wouldn't want it back. just can't believe it happened in n. hollywood. i'm in the b.h. & hollywood areas alot & haven't heard of theft like that one. i'm sure it's organized... someone ordered that car a while ago---- it's probably off shore by now in a container full of other exotics.

One more reason to install a secret battery bypass switch or if it's e-gas, then a kill for that too. Battery keys, like used on the track, under your seat, are really good at preventing quick thefts. If they have time, nothing will stop them.
