Once again I may be in position to afford my Dream car. A 993 TT. But before I start down the road to my Dream..Will I be disapointed? I have a couple guys telling me the TT is not as much fun because it doesn't have the grunt off the corners as our N/A 993s? Can that be true? Is the TT as reliable? My curret car has been as solid as they come (No kidding, I have a nice car)
But the TT has been a fantasy since it first hit production. I'd just hate to give up my C4S and end up with an expensive mistake. So as usual your opinions are welcome and wanted. Thanks

I have the same problem - if you could call it a problem. The TT will be marginally more expensive to own but not really less reliable. You are in a better situation than me, however. The main problem I have with the TT is that in my opinion the steering and shifter are not as nice as those in the 2wd car. As a c4s owner, this is not a problem for you. I think you'll like the grunt of the TT even off corners.
Having said all this, if the price difference between my car and the TT were $10k instead of $30k, we wouldn't be having this conversation.......

You might not get a lot of fresh dialog on this thread because it's a well-worn topic. Use the search facility here and check out the 993 Turbo sites. Drive a couple of Turbos and say drive the C4S and C2S a few times. Whatever you get, it will almost certainly need at least minor suspension work and a decent alignment to feel "right."
I think of the Turbo as something that, if possible, you should at least try it for a while once in your life. Some people move on, others (perhaps me) can never find a better car. I could see myself still with a 993 Turbo 20 years from now. That's not to say I won't have a 72 or 73, plus a 993 with a naturally aspirated engine.
And we're always hoping porsche will build something light and powerful again one day ... here's hoping the 997 (now rumoured to be out next year as an '05 model) is avaiable as a very light car, although there's talk all 997's will be wide body.

No worries about grunt out of the corners. I have driven a 1997TT...it is very similar to driving a 70's muscle car, performance wise. In addition, it also handles around the corners. Lots of grunt...no worries.
Maintenance wise: Pop the hood....I suspect that lots of stuff may have to come off before your technician can get to engine things, mere speculation, don't know for certain.
Once you drive a TT, there will be no further questions iof you a a performance geek, and who isn't on this List?
I would buy a TT in a NY minute were I looking for a new ride. For the moment, my 97 is doing the job. In addition, I have too much money in it to sell it off now. However, if I could find someone who just had to have a 993 track prepared car that casn be street driven, and they were willing to pay about $50,000 foir the car...maybe I'd be driving a TT car, hmmmmm.

No grunt coming off the corners??? I think someone was referring to a Mitsubishi turbo, not a 993TT.. There is no way you could be disappointed..
And Martin, working on the engine just requires Step One, Remove Intercooler. Just a couple minute job. Not really a big deal.

Viper Bob,
I stand corrected..pop off that intercooler and away you go. I can almost guarantee that if you drive a TT and follow up with a N/A (Normally aspirated) ride...the N/A car will seem like it is running on 4 cylinders. It has taken me months to forget about my one and only 993TT ride/drive experience.

Rolo, I have owned a number of 993's C2, C4, C4s and now TT. There is absolutely no contest. My car is a Porsche Club Race logbooked C class TT at this point and I have roughly 450 lbs of ballast in the passenger floor to make weight for the races(3300lbs) . With the weight it is obscenely fast, when I remove the ballast and run it at 2800 and change the car is SICK FAST. I am confident that it is as fast as my 996 SuperCup. You will not be disappointed as Martin stated even my 3.8 RSCS motor seems like a 4 cylinder at this point even though it had short gears.

Hmm, no grunt? I've arrived at TT ownership via a 280BHP 964, which I thought was quick but the TT is in a different league and then some. It has so much grunt that even now, two months down the line, I can be dawdling along, floor it and when it's time to change up a gear, find i'm already one cog highter than I thought I was! I'm looking for the stick at 3rd and it's already in fourth!
You'll have no regrets!

Once you experience boost, you will not be satisfied with anything else. If I only can have one Porsche, it will always be a Turbo. I have a friend who had an 88 Turbo coupe, bought a wonderful 98 C2S and just sold it because he missed the boost. He drove the TT and immediately put his C2S up for sale.

I owned my N/A 993 for 4 years and loved it. I had tears in my eyes when I shipped it to the new owner. The day I got my TT I forgot I ever owned another car. I have had the TT for two months now and am having a ball. The biggest problerm is what modifications to make first. Great ride! Mike W

ok - so I'll be sour puss...
I'd stick with what you have - a rick solid super car with 4WD and more power than 95% of cars on the road and more character than 99% of cars on the road.
If it were my money, I'd not change.
