Yup...even the big tired race cars get power steering.

I run a de-powered rack with 245 slicks on my Miata track car. It has 5 degrees of caster and 3 degrees of camber. Low speed parking lot stuff is kinda a bear. On track the advantages are clear. I can really sense when I am feeding it too much wheel and scrubbing the tires.

The 993 power steering is nicely weighted. It you want better feedback I would max out caster settings. Smaller steering wheel is nice too. Beyond that I think it's the best possible situation for a street car.

Best of luck to the OP. Not something I would do to mine. I did drive a 930 with manual steering and super low caster. Steering effort was decent but re-center feel sucked.

I had an RSA with manual rack before my 993 and I personally prefer the 993. The manual rack didn't bother me in parking lots or in town driving. It had a little more weight to it, but it was very manageable. Where I noticed the difference most was in hard cornering where it would load up more and I would have to 'fight' the wheel mid-corner. For me it was a distraction from driving not an addition. The harder the cornering forces and the lumpier the road, the worse it was. The 993 rack gives nearly as much feedback and is much easier to drive.

I should add that the stock tie-rods are a problem, they remove a lot of steering feel and precision. Once I added solid tie-rods I was 100% satisfied and would not go back to a manual rack. My 993 drives better than my RSA in just about every way - steering included.
