Default 993 (RS) manual steering discussion

I know this has been discussed before, but I wanted to ask how it's working out for anyone that has done this conversion to any 993, and ideally below which weight would manual steering be preferred (mostly as dd but also for track)

Would the RS be light enough or does more weight need to be shredded off (if so, where)?

Thanks in advance.

You'll probably receive a greater experience response over on the 964 board , even though I have a 993 with manual steering , I've yet to drive it on the road so no driving references
perse except I had a few earlier 911's that all had no power steering ...Bert

Thanks for the response and advice!
Do let me know how it goes when you drive it!
I know how the older 911s feel, but still dying of curiosity about the 993.

Cheers!

The 993 cup had no power steering , when I went to RSR body I added an electric steering pump due to the largest front tyres . The cup needs good arms, the RSR is light , so when I built my 964 RSR I added directly an electric pump !
Why would you want to go to manual steering on a 993 RS ???
I have only drive my cars with slicks tyres on tracks .

Both 993Cup and 993RSR used the same p/s and steering rack as the standard street 993 M003 RS/CS

Not sure why anyone would want to go to a manual rack, my shoulders are sore after a track day as it is, the guys in bigger tires older 911s have it much worse

manual is also slower than a 993 rack

The electric pump change is certainly worthwhile

Interesting poll results so far.

Reasons why you think it's a bad idea?

Cheers!

Honestly, because why would you go without power steering in a modern car that already had it designed in and a car you want to DD?

I had a manual steering rack in my RS America back in the day. It's not worth the trouble.

I think you should do it. You've been told by everyone (including me) who has real-world experience with this that it's a bad idea, but you are dying to be told it's a good idea because you want to do it. So at this point I think you should do it. You're going to regret it, of course, but this is a process you seem determined to experience.

It most definitely is something I want to experience, whatever the outcome...
Never driven a post 1972 manual steering car, but a voice tells me a manual 993 with the appropriate mod and set up will feel amazing.

I understand where you're coming from, but not everyone has said it's a bad idea - just a majority. And since no details are specified from either side, I can't take a side in the discussion.. which therefore leaves me with one option - to do it myself.

A 993 with SIMILAR feel to a 1972 S would be a dream. Whether it can be a reality or not.. who knows?

Cheers!

I'm no expert but to get a similar steering feel as a '72 S won't you need both the manual steering rack and comparably wide front tires?
