Strut tower brace - pushing out or pulling in?
This seems really elementary but I don't have a clue.
I purchased a strut tower brace and installed it tonight. Should it have light pressure pushing the strut towers apart or light pressure pulling them together?
Help is appreciated!

There are a few more postings on this subject, but these should be enough. Bascially, it's a 1/4 to 1/2 turn to load the pressure outwards. Also, make sure that you don't over torque the bolts.
Btw, where did you get it from and how much was it?

I don't know if I deserve the title just yet...
Let me check the archives..
Seriously, there is so much good information here. It would be even better if there was some way to combine the old 993 list with the new one. Just a thought...

Brings up an interesting side point Jeff, I can't access Dennis' old 993 board archives search page anymore. Anyone else have this problem or do I have an old address?
Robin?
Here is the one I try:
Dennis' Old 993 Board Search and Archives
Thanx,

I purchased mine from Andial. It's on sale right now for $235.
Andial web site
Click on "Parts", then "Parts Specials".
The brace is very nice, polished aluminum bar and hardware and black painted steel brackets. They are thin enough that the standard 13mm nuts fit perfectly on the studs. Total installation time was about 30 minutes. No instructions provided...

Not just you. I've been unable to access Dennis' FAQ for a while. No idea what happened or where in cyberspace to find it. Too bad, because all pre 8/00 old board posting are gone.

One obvious item that I have never seen addressed (perhaps it does not merit) is which side of each mount faces forwards. My Porshe brace is L shaped. Do you look at the nuts from the front or do you have to peek around to the back side of the mount to see them?

NM98Cab,
Since there were no instructions provided I S.W.A.G'd it.. The brackets could not fit on the rearward side of the shock tower so that was a no brainer. I decided the flange would face forward putting the vertical bracket and aluminum brace as close to the centerline of the strut as possible.
If I engineered the brace I would have designed a bracket that utilizes all 4 of the strut bolts and placed the crossbar as close to the centerline as possible. Perhaps that would have been overdoing it.
Pete at Andial said theirs is nearly an identical copy of the Porsche brace. It was labled "Street or Race" for what that's worth.
Today's driving didn't reveal any revelations however, (you'll appreciate this as a Cabriolet owner) I sensed a significant reduction in chasis twist and creak when pulling into my insanely steep office driveway. I think I'll appreciate it more after my PSS-9 coil over kit is installed.
