Red face Toyo Proxes T 1-S

Any 993 owners out there ever run this tire? Curious on thoughts/feedback from either road or track experiences...Looking for a less expensive alternative for jsut road driving rather than the S-02 or Michelin Pilots that everybody reccommends....

Check into the new Kuhmos. I understand they are fine tires, and cheap too!!!

I'm currently running the Khumo Ecsta. I've had them for about 8K miles so far and had no problems. I previously had Contisport on the car. These tires are a bit harder so they should last longer. They definitely have a bit less grip and squealed a bit when new but for general everyday driving I've been very happy with them. I got them through tire rack and saved probably 400-500 dollars over Bridgestone S02's etc.. The person I spoke to at Tire Rack spoke very highly of them and said they are comparable to a lot of tires twice the cost.

I currently run the Toyo T1-S. Put about 1,000 mi. on them on the street, used them once at the track when a screwup prevented me from getting my Hoosiers. I find the tires to be fine for the road. They seem to have a pretty hard compound, though--feels a lot harder than the Bridgestone S02. I suspect that as a result of this, wear would be decent. On the track (unshaved) they are fairly awful--imprecise and squirmy, but this is not what the tire was designed for, Speedvision cup or no. Bottom line: a lot of tire for the money for the street, plus the 18s come in nice low profiles, which I like.

J Stewart:

If you are running 18's and are willing to pay the freight, I have a set that I ran in Speedvision WC that you can have. They were shaved and have about an hour and some change of pretty hard running, but you could try them out and see. There is still some tread visible, but it is in the 1-2 32nds range. I think they are 245s and 285s.

J Stewart,

I don't hear much about the Yokohama "AVS Sport" on this board but I've got them on mine (9K miles now) and they stick well, seem to wear very well, aren't noisy, and are less expensive than the SO2 or Pirelli Asymmetrico (sp?).

On the track, the AVS Sports were very predictable with great feedback, and I never had the feeling that I didn't know what they were doing. Never drove SO2s to compare, however.

I've also seen others here (Ray and E.J. to my recollection) recommend the Bridgestone RE730, (a "HighPerformance" tire as opposed to a "MaxPerformance" tire --Tire Rack's terminology) which can save you more money still. The "saved" money, of course, simply goes back into the car and/or track time, I'm sure
....Which, in the long run, is not a bad move in itself!

I would rate these tires in the class of Pirelli 7000s, Bridgestone RE730s and Kuhmo Estcas <-sp?

They are great I have then mounted on my new set of chrome Eagle Rock wheels. I think they are perfect for the street and not very expensive.

J Stewart,

I am curious on what type of pricing you are getting on the Toyo's? I have been looking into the Toyo's but the pricing I have found thus far has been the same or maybe $5 +/- difference than the Bridgestone S0-2's, etc. I was looking for 18's but it seemed to me the prices were comparitive for different manufactures in the same size. Where have you been looking? Because I wanted to get the toyo's but for the same price I can get the Bridgestones or for a few $$ more the Pirelli's .

Thanks.
