My "New" 993......
If you've been following a couple of threads, you'll notice I made reference to my latest acquisition - and as of last night - it's OFFICIAL!!!
The background is I'm working with developing a very complete Rennlist Sponsor package with a Porsche Dealer - that frankly - will knock the socks off of any previous "Dealer Sponsorships" some of you may recall. So, over the course of working on some programming, I got a call from one of the sales folks asking if I might be interested in a 993 - as a private sale, since he might know of one that needed work....
Sure - I tell him - like I have about $30,000 stuffed in a sock somewhere. A 993 C4? Only if I sell Jen's and my house and live in the car... Anyway - he tell's me he doesn't believe that's the case.....
So - I talk to the owner. Great guy - and we instantly hit it off. And I ask a lot of questions about the car. Yes, it needs work (see below), but he want's it "gone", as it's been sitting in a secure parking lot for the past 6 months. We haggle for about 3 seconds - and arrive at the price - $16,000 as is... So, based on that conversation - I put up my '87, which sold darned quickly off of Rennlist...
OK - so here are some specs:
1995 C4, 103,000 miles, one owner car (he bought it new), all dealer serviced, Arctic white, grey leather interior, sunroof, CD player, extra set of factory wheels with snow tires (???) - yada, yada..... Original sticker - $69,694
The problems with the car right now: Brake pads are frozen to the caliper plate (remember - it's been sitting for 6-7 months..), Clutch will have to be replaced (aww right - a reason for me to pull another Porsche Engine this winter as my "project!! (I did the '87 last winter ), door sill rust bubbles, 1" rust spot on the hood, Oil seepage (the owner swears it doesn't leak, the Tech says it does - but - it's been sitting so long - both may be right, it'll leak till it gets driven...).
I'm sure there may be more - but until I spend some more time with it - I'm not sure what the real vs. perceived issues are. But for $16,000 - I can afford to have a few things to play with this winter.....
So - NOW - I'm an actual 993 owner!!! I still can't believe it. Seriously, I thought my next P'car would be a 964 in a few years, when I could afford one. A 993 was far beyond my wildest expectations.....
(Now - I bet'cha can't wait to hear who this Rennlist Sponsor is who put this private sale in motion - huh??? Stay tuned - but my thanks to them/him...!!!

Congrats on the purchase!
By the way, there's a great website to help you with the repairs called Rennlist. You might want to check it out...
Seriously, though, congratulations.

Wow - you folks DO KNOW it's Saturday, right??? I mean - I just posted this - and checked back on-line - and it has how many replies???..!!!
First of all - Thank you!!!! However - wait until you see some of the questions I ask!! LOL!!! You'll be amazed!!! Remember - until now - my "newest" Porsche has been my '87..! Before that - ummm - '65, '68, '73, '74, '75, '78 (all 911s), with a diversion into 2 951s, a 931 - and my track car ('75 914-6 3.0 which I built from the ground up..). So - I have no idea what all the "new fangled" stuff is on these 993s
HOWEVER - trust me - this Rennlist Forum and Robin's site helped me make the "plunge"..
Now - about any mods I have planned - yep, "it's sort'a like that".. ..... I was thinking, while installing the clutch - and while "I'm in there" - what about... Nawwwwww - I'll post that later
Seriously - my thanks to all - I'll post pics in the next few days.....

Just to add my congratualtions and remind you that you should get the rust fixed under Porsche's 10-year warranty. Quite a few 993s seem to suffer from small patches of rust around the front windshield, and I am currently having mine fixed under warranty.
Enjoy your 993!

Congratulations! You know, having driving a 993 with the RS clutch & flywheel, you'd be nuts not to install one. As long as you're replacing the clutch, the incremental cost is peanuts!
And, hey - Robin's DIY site *is* missing an 'engine R&R' diy article, so...
