Post twisting the RPM gauge..

Just out of curiosity,
How many of you have twisted your RPM gauge so the readline is at 12:00??

I am thinking about doing this and wanted to get some feedback.
Is it easy to do?
thanks.

B-line,

It's easy to do. I did it on my older 911. The main issue is that you have to pull the gauge out. Most people will try to small one first, such as the clock and then put your hand behind the gauge and push it out.

Once it is out, twist it anyway you want.

Note: If you have on board computer display, it might look funny with redline at 12 o'clock.

Hope this helps,

Sonny Vo

B-Line, I just used a small flat head screwdriver under the bezel and kept gently prying out in three or four places and eventually it had come out enough to allow the grip of my fingers to grab it and pull it out and twist. It really doesn't come out very far, but it was really easy. Be careful about the area around the gauge when using the screwdriver.

A small tip, put a bit of WD-40 Lubricant or similar on the rubber seal before replacing.

The dial just slides back in without any problems then.

For similar tasks, I've always used common window cleaner (Windex, etc.) or water w/a drop of dishwashing liquid, as a temporary lubricant. Unlike "real" lubricants like WD-40, those liquids fully evaporate leaving no residue & no lasting, undesired lubrication.

Thanks for all the info guys,

Sonny good point about the on board computer
display. I forget that newer models have some electronics built into the gauges.
Well, my car should be here tomorrow and I will know then if there is anything that would look ackward twisted immediately when I sit in the car for the first time...

Thanks again for all the info and I will post and let you know my results.

The turn signal indicators look a little funny, but you'll get used to it.

Do it! EJ's directions are right on. I enjoy it because your peripheral vision picks up the needle much more easily than when in the "normal" position. When the needle is pointing up, shift. It's easy to rotate back to the original if you don't like it.

Would it be easier just to get a new tachometer, set up for the 12 o clock redline? I think it looks great, and can see how easier it would be too read. Being "directionally impaired", I do not know how i would determine left from right, if my blinkers read "up" and "down"
