Post Off with my bra at 90+ mph!

I finally "get it", the reason you don't want a car bra on your car at a speed event. It can come off, and at the most inopportune moment(s)!. I was coming through Turn 9 at the Willow Springs International Raceway today, when without any warning, the Colgan bra whips off the car and trys to work it's way into my window . It was being held on my a tenacious piece of bra material, flapping wildly in the breeze. Fortunately I was able to safely pull over, remove the bra, and discard it where it belongs, the trash can.

I am going to 3M the car for protection...no more car bra for me...burn the bras!!! Go braless!

Phil,

Good news for you, and other track junkies that live withing driving distance to Willow Springs International Raceway: Test Day!!! We did a test day prior to the POC Time TRial a few weeks back. All you need to do is pay $150 a day, for unlimited track time. Initially, they charge you an annual fee of $75, so the first time out there is a $225 pop, $150 thereafter for the remainder of the year. And they send you a neat litttle card:WILLOW SPRINGS UNIVERSAL 2002 MEMBERSHIP WAIVER. This will give you bragging rights at your next Bench Racing Session, up in Santa Inez, maybe at the Gainey Winery?

If you want timing, you'll need a Hot Lap transmitter and receiver. Each car gets a receiver, with only one transmitter located near start/finish...you get you times on the fly, really neat!!!

Also, there are no corner workers, and there are no passing rules...so you have to watch your mirrors. Chances are there will be some fast cars on the track with you...it is good practice, that's the way I see it.

It is a really great time, and well worth it. So working weekends is no longer an excuse not to get to the track!!!

Why PCA picked Monday, Willow Springs is booked years in advance on the weekends with the Cobra Club, the Pantera Club, the Alfa Club, etc.

I don't know about you guys, but after today at the track, my batteries are charged!!!

Keep in mind, I have to "sell" this whole track thingy to my Wifey yadayadayada!

Martin,

Wow, I never heard of Willow offering this deal, and I've been at there a zillion times with the Alfa guys. Thanks for the good news!!! Whadda you doing in April? Alfa club has got a TimeTrial if you want to hook up

Phil,
If you're referring to what city Willow is in, it's in Rosamond, off the 14Fwy (not too far from Edwards AFB, I think). Offer to the TT extends to you as well, Phil. It'd be great to meet some of the Rennlisters out there.

Funny you should mention this - and glad no harm came from it. The day I picked up my 993 C4 I attached one of those "mag bras". It seemed easier at the time to put on/take off. Well, getting on the highway from the first onramp (about 10 minutes into ownership), I get up to about 70 and watch each piece of mag bra fly over my windshield and into the distance through the rear view mirror. $127 down the drain but a good laugh. I haven't bought another,

Phil,

Both Willow Springs and Buttonwillow have similar test situations. Many Fridays are open testing days, with an annual membership of $75 and a per day test fee. Willow Springs is outside of Lancaster. If you are taking a street car, you will need to check on the requirements, if any, with the track. Also you should understand these are racing test days and the other cars will mostly be race cars, with guys driving at 10/10ths, passing in corners, etc. If someone passes you on the inside of a corner and slides into you, the most you will get is an apology - that's racing.

Personally, I would not put a street car out in these sessions, but I have seen some people do it.

Martin, Did any of the corner workers whistle at you when you drove by, topless, waving your bra out the window?

I know why Marty's bra flew off as he gave me several rides in his car and also instructed me (terrific instructor by the way). He drives too fast!

I too had a bra on (my car), but it did not come off at my granny speed. In time as my lap times come down I may consider removing the bra.

I did let DJ drive my car for several laps and the bra did not come off. I guess I got lucky for that session.

By the way Marty, when are you going to Gainy? If you go a bit further up the Foxen Trail (fun but narrow road), I will buy you a bottle of Byron Pinot. I owe you for all of the great pointers

Why yes they did as a matter of fact. But their comment was, "You failed the "pencil test"! I believe I heard it correctly, yuk, get that bra back on. If you can hold a pencil braless...wear a bra!!!
