Default Help me choose between these two cars

I know the answer is to go with the one that drives better, but one is sight unseen. I'd get a PPI of course.

1996 C4 cab black over light grey. 60K miles. At least 2 owners. Seller is a dealer who bought it at auction. Issues - I felt water under one of the rear floormats so car isn't perfectly watertight. Driver door hinge clicks. No records, just book stamps up to 30K service. I can get this for $34K.

1997 C4 cab polar silver over black. 34K miles. Original owner. Told there were no issues but haven't had a PPI or eveb seen the car yet - I'll have to fly to see it. $39K.

My guess is that the $5K premium is worth the difference, all other things being equal, for the newer model year and the lower mileage. Any thoughts?

Definitely #2. Original owner, records, not an auction....

That said there will be for sure be a great #3 and #4 should you keep on looking....

I've been looking since July. #2 is the color combo that most interests me and I've seen a bunch. Just wondering if either is too good a deal to pass on, and what type of value to attribute to the one owner, low miles

#2 b/c of known history "at least claimed to be known".
don't n know the prices in boston, but $39k is pretty good price in CA.
if PPI pans out, i would go for it.

No 2, especially if it's your color choice. No 1 sounds like a major headache in the making, with the added aggravation that you don't really like the color combination.

As to price, take a look and make a list - along with the PPI - in order to negotiate. 'Seems fair, and perhaps it has a lot of options, such as full leather, turbo hollows, etc....

Good luck.

Ditto #2 - no question. If it is a nice one owner car, that is a deal. Get on a plane and go see it and bring your checkbook.

No. 1 seems priced about right if all "issues" were resolved.

No. 2 seems priced a bit on the low side, that is if it passes a PPI with no issues found.

I say definitely #2. Get some high-resolution photos sent and *definitely* have the card PPI'd. Go slow, be methodical and thorough and get lucky that the car is really what you've been looking for.

Keep us posted.

Stupid me, on first read I missed the fact they were Cabs.

Immediately arrange PPI on #2. If it passes, go get it.

Good luck.

From my studies of 993 cab prices a few months ago, I found that prices drop at about $0.25 per mile (yup, think about that next time y'all go for a drive). Thus the difference in mileage is worth about $6,500 here. Cet. par., car #2 is the better deal.

BUT if you wanna do some mods you may wanna spend less up front.

The water issue alone would make me discount #1.

#2 has the color you want and is a one owner car. Before you fly out there, I would have the owner do an over-the-phone walk-through of his car. When the car isn't in front of them, almost every owner has a perfect car with no dings and no wear in the interior. Right. If you're an exacting bastard now, it could save you from being dismayed later, should you fly over and try to buy the car.

MonkeyBoy,
Like everyone else I would go with the second one. That was an easy multiple choice question.

I must say you have the most excellent avatar ever!
There is not much I have ever seen that's cooler than that.

VEEEERY COOL.

Unfortunately it looks like the seller might not be parting with his car after all (maybe he's subscribing to this thread!). The search continues. Regarding the avatar, I found it on some other totally non-Porsche related bulletin board and said I NEED THAT! The video was much smoother and a little larger so I had to trim out half of the frames and crop it. BTW, here's my second favorite avatar, but there's no Porsche in it:

I'd get avatar #2 after a thorough inspection. Very thorough.

While you're at it, get the #2 cab checked out and buy it.
