Default Supercharging my c4s

I've decided to supercharge my 1997 C4S. TPC has just revised their kit by going to a smaller pulley and updating the software. It is supposed to add an additional 20 RWHP.

Of those of you that have made the switch, or no of someone that has, have you heard of any horror stories? What do you think that it will do to the resale value? As long as it does not "hurt" the value, I don't mind not getting the money spent to supercharge the car, back out when I do sell it. Would you shy away from a 1997 c4s in perfect condition with 22,000 miles on it, that was supercharged? Or would you consider the supercharger as an added bonus, since you were not paying more than you would for a regular 1997 c4s?

If you have driven, or been in a supercharged c4s, what did it feel like compared to a non SC one?

Thanks for the feedback. I have searched the boards and read all other post concerning the SC already. I'm hoping that someone will have something new to say.

Just my opinion, flame suit on: I'd never buy such a car. Not even heavily discounted. I trust the factory to extract the most reliable performance from the car. A chip is one thing, an exhaust , fine... The supercharger is not a factory design, and that brand is known to have blown up some other P-cars (boxsters come to mind). Even if it's the best conversion out there, I'd want to keep my C4S pristine or trade it in for a real Twin Turbo.

that said, I am sure someone, somewhere will buy it from you regardless...

I personally would be more reluctant to buy a car that had been extensively tracked than one that had a properly/professionally installed installed supercharger.

I spoke to Mike at TPC the other day actually. The new pulley is 2.5 inches rather than the original 3 inch. That gives another 20RWHP with the software plus the 100RWHP that the original superchager gave. So now it's a total of 120RWHP added to your base 282 flywheel HP.

Personally I'd love to have a supercharger, but I would be conerend about re-sale. If selling the car I'd put it back to stock and sell the supercharger on it's own.

Unless you can find a person who really wanted exactly what was on your car including the supercharger.

I agree with Steve - it should not be too difficult to return the car to stock and sell the kit separately. Of course, you could possibly find a buyer who happens to be looking for a supercharged C4 but you might be waiting a long, long time.

Steve, the Varioram is removed where applicable for the TPC conversion so I am assuming that the base power is 272 hp. According to your latest figures the revised kit should give an output of 392 lag-free horsepower with loads of low down torque. Drool....

If the Bosters were 1998 models, chances are that they would have blown up on their own.

I think it depends on the buyer. If it was me I would look at a supercharged 993 knowing the running reports from other listers. For most uninformed buyers i must I agre its risky..

Depends on the buyer. I know I wouldn't hesitate if the car had records and was owned by A PCAer or Rennlister. But I love boost. I imagine to get the most out of it you will have to return to stock and sell the SC to somebody else.

Autometrics in Charleston is doing some work on a TPC supercharged 993 C4S which is due to go to the dyno this week or next to see what it really does.

Steve,

do you know whether the 2.5" pulleyed kit comes with an intercooler?

Regards, Mark.

Hi Mark,

The pulley update kit does not come with an intercooler. A friend of mine just put on a air to air intercooler on his supercharged 993 and is helpping TPC in testing it along with a water to air intercooler. Should be good news for us 993 guys who stayed away from the TPC unit because it lacked the intercooler.

Steve,

I'm one of the early guys who took the kit but added a smaller pulley and intercooler. I'm interested to see whether the A-A or A-W units ends up being the one TPC choose.

Now up to 25k miles on the kit running about 8-9lb.

Cheers, Mark.

Philip,
I am mulling over the same decision you have made. A 993TT or supercharge my C4S? Please let me know how it goes. Also, could you PM the total cost of the TPC kit + installation? I have seen their advertised price on their website and was wondering if that was the "total" parts price. Thanks.
