Post CD Changer

I wish to install a Becker or compatible CD changer in my 993 targa. I presently have a Becker factory supplied CR210 head unit. Can someone direct me as to what the procedure is for installation. Is there a place somewhere in the trunk where this matching unit can be "plugged" into the system, or does this involve running cables, etc. etc?. Is there a factory technical directive on this installation?

Randyvitaha:

My '95 had a CR-1 head unit which was attached to a Porsche CDC-2 mounted in the trunk. There was a single factory cable that connected the two units. I removed all three of these parts; however it would be very simple to follow the stock path with your own cable. It enters the trunk on the driver's side. If you are interested, I could probably take some pictures that would pinpoint the firewall pass-through location. I am assuming that the newer unit you have would be connected to the remote changer in much the same manner.

Randy;

You will need the inter-connect cable, the number is 993-645-453-00. Your CD unit will be installed on the left frame rail.

Randy,

I have a Porsche factory mount bracket, and even a Porsche factory six disk CDC-1 unit. All you would need is the inter-connect cable #993-645-453-00.

I know the CD player "works," and of course the substantial bracket is perfect. That's all I know about them though (never had the CD "magazine" to try it all out). A hundred bucks & they both are yours. Just sitting on my shelf - out of my 1995.

Randy, It's worth bearing in mind if the changer is intrusive into your luggage space it may be possible to mount it under the carpet in the spare wheel well. I say 'may' because the PO on my car had a Sony X 12 changer fitted there but I don't know if it has different dimensions to the factory unit. The spare wheel does not have to be removed.
