Just so people have and idea of cost, the hub adapters are around $100, while the various pulleys are in the $500-650+ range and pretty much require pulling the engine to install... You also do not have to install one of the pulleys to install the hub adaptor in order to have a single belt driving the alternator and fan....

Sunset Porsche ( Sunset parts ) is going to sell me the RS alternator hub for $93.90

I'm not clear if the studs already come on the hub, and all I need to add are locknuts, or if I also need to order the studs separately, since they are a separate part # in PET 6.0.

The studs are $1.90 ea and the locknuts are $0.46 ea. from Sunset.

They show the studs on the PET as being separate, but on all the ones I have ordered they have already been installed.

There is no group buy to get the $93.90 price for the RS alternator hub from Sunset, that is their cost+15% price for the item. I doubt that a group buy would save much over that relatively low price item. There may be another vendor that can supply it cheaper, if so go for it. Of course, if you live in WA or OR, you may want to look elsewhere because they don't offer cost+15% to people in those states (they must figure you are captive buyers).

The Porsche parts guy that took my order for the RS Hub 993-106-051-80 is named Jeff. The link to Sunset is a few messages back.

I'm trying to install this RS hub. How do you put the threaded studs through the fan? It seems like all three studs need to be threaded through the fans threads, but that can't be done with all three studs installed on the hub. Do you need to remove the studs first? If so how?

Also does the bearing on the fan need to be removed permanently first? If so does that mean the fan will be turning without a bearing?

Thanks

Tom

Tom.

This will lock the fan to the alternator shaft, so no other bearing is needed.

There are no threads on the fan. There are only threads in the alternator bearing which must be removed as described earlier in this thread and in the p-car.com DIY.... Once this bearing is removed, the RS part slides on and the fan will just fit nicely over the pulley studs....

Good luck with the DIY...

I must be crazy but I can't find anything in this thread or on p-car saying how to remove the alternator bearing from the fan.

Does it unscrew or does it have to be pushed out?

Thanks again

The bearing (pressed onto the shaft and the fan) generally will stay on the fan when you remove it from the alternator shaft. This is described earlier but I use a smaller three jaw puller and put the jaws in the slots on the front side of the fan. Use something to protect the top of the shaft and just gradually pull off the fan. It is always good to spray a touch of Liquid Wrench on the bearing at the shaft before you begin the process.

As most people do not pocess a press, I would use a plastic hammer and carefully knock out the bearing frm the fan after it is removed from the alternator by going in circles and making sure that it is coming out straight.

Now you are armed and dangerous....
