Hey Joel,
Suggest you also look at this make /model, not only can it function as a maintainer, but it can also recover sulphated batteries.
I had two AGM deep discharge batteries for my trailer that I thought were toast and this thing brought them back to life, although it did require several diagnostic / charge cycles.

Can't go wrong with either, but I would get the second one.
You should look at this one. Works great for me on a wide variety on batteries.

I have several CTEK maintainers and they all came with liter plug pigtail, alligator clamp pigtail, and Overboosted's favorite, eyelet pigtail (sometimes I forget how to open the hood
). Plus, a bag to store it all in. Just doesn't say "Porsche" on the maintainer........

When I put the C4 away for winter storage I pull the following fuses:
11 - trunk & engine compartment lights
12 - interior lights
29 - clock
Then I can connect the charger to the pigtail and leave the frunk slightly ajar, as I don't like to close the lid with the charger wire passing through it (although it does close OK). However I don't want to take a chance that the trunk seal might get permanently deformed where the wire passes through, and allow water into the trunk if driving in rain.
BTW the CTEK charger referenced by Blacksnake is also well regarded, apparently several auto manufacturers re-brand it as their own so it would not surprise me if Porsche was one of those. It also has desulphating technology so can restore batteries damaged by being completely depleted.
I was on the fence between the CTEK and the Optimate but ended up going with the latter as it put a lot of emphasis on the desulphating function and I had a couple of expensive trailer batteries I was hoping to rescue.
If storage is your main emphasis you can't go wrong with either of them, and both have diagnostic and desulphating functionality if you ever end up needing that.
Off topic, car came back from the body shop a couple of weeks ago, as it had to go back to fix some solvent pop issues. It looks great now! It's now comfortably resting in Poseidon's old spot until Old Man Winter releases his grip...

The pigtail supplied with the Optimate is about 22" long so definitely not long enough to bring out by the windshield, however they do sell extensions that could could be used for this. As it is, mine barely pokes out of the trunk.

Ill check out extensions. In the meantime I see if I can get the cigarette lighter hook up to keep things going.
BTW, I'll be out your way in March for the PCA Zone 6 Presidents meeting. Somebody nominated me and after an extensive campaign (only second to Donald Trump's) I was voted in. So if you are free for coffee and the 993 is back together in one piece maybe we can go for a run!

993 is assembled but like groundhog day, if it sees any snow in March it may go back into hibernation for another month or two. Hopefully spring will come early here like it did last year. But drop me an email when your itinerary is sorted and hopefully we can connect.
BTW did you have any progress on troubleshooting the phantom power drain on Poseidon?

Joel:
Just run the pigtail from the battery to the front of the trunk, and out the top or side edge of the vertical part of the trunk liner. The pig tail stays in the trunk between uses, and is out of the way. To hook up, plug the power supply cord from your CTEC or Battery Tender into the pigtail and drop the trunk lid on it. The trunk seal is pliant enough that the cord will not be damaged.
The cigarette lighter socket on the 993 is a problem, and unless you can get your hands on an Escort radar detective power cord plug sleeve, the power cord will keep dropping out.
If I had another 993, I would just bite the bullet and convert the cigarette lighter socket to one having a "normal" diameter.

Congrats on the win! Hope the Russians had nothing to do with it...

The phantom power drain was traced to the CD player. I used it on the way home from Calgary. I am not sure if Bert ever used it. When we yanked the CD unit out everything worked fine. I have since dropped it back in but have not re-entered the code to turn it on and things are so far 100% holding.
The only other odd thing I found are the head lights and the instrument panel lights dimming with the revs go above 4500. I think a alternator / voltage regulator replacement may be in order.
So there's still a few gremlins to sort out.
I'll keep you posted on my trip.

Just a quick update on "Ocean Blue". After battery discharge blues for months, and having to carry and jump unit, the alternator packed it it. With a new alternator and voltage regulator dropped in he starts up every time with a roar. Fantastic. Looking back it all makes sense, right?
