Used Lot Dust Collector 993 possible purchase
I was looking at the car below because the dealer may be willing to deal on it after having it sit on their lot for about 4 months.
I'm wondering what a fair price is considering they might not have the best paper trail for it even after claiming they inspected it and did some service to it over the phone.
Also needs that sound system replaced, cell phone holder removed and those chrome or polished wheels need to go or at least be painted...and that is just the cosmetic stuff before you get to the suspension and rest of the drivetrain including the SAI etc.
It will definitely be another car that will take some time and money to make enjoyable.

Walk, better cars are going for less than that. Anytime I see chromed wheels on a 911 in a used car lot my sixth sense tingles....especially with a big amplifier under the seat.

Agree with Mike that the price is way high but you knew that. You also have a good sense of what needs fixing. The challenge in these cars is what shows up after you buy it. That makes buying a well cared for and sorted example often the smarter and cheaper approach, especially if a shop, not you, will be doing most of the work.
Going out of a limb, I think this is an upper $30s car. It would be great if there are records. There is no substitute for seeing a car in person, especially when TLC appears to be lacking. You also still need a good PPI from a reputable shop where the people are knowledgeable about cars like this.
The wheels are ugly and should be replaced but that's more an issue of personal preference, not a good argument for lowering the price. Don't repaint over the chrome.

My thoughts exactly. So long as it's not a total mechanical disaster, this would make a great, guilt free project car. Either a track car or an unorthodox customized road car (if you're a creative sort )

Price aside I have seen worse. Weird front grille treatment and new wheels are relatively easy and cheap(ish). If it passes a thorough inspection by a knowledgeable individual, 30-35k might make sense.

I just picked up the following that may or may not end up on the Ruf, for $7500. Similar isn't falling off 993/964s anymore.
MCS 2-way adjustable non-remote coil-over shocks/springs (TCD spec)
Porsche GT3 adjustable control arms for all 4 corners
Tarett adjustable front thrust arms
Tarett 26.8mm 5-position adjustable sway bar & links
Tarett front monoball camber plates
Tarett adjustable rear thrust arms
Tarett adjustable rear upper control arms
Tarett 20.7mm 4-position adjustable sway bar & links
Tarett rear monoball camber plates
TCDesign single diagonal custom roll bar (removable with moderate effort)
2 Porsche 996/997 GT3 fiberglass bucket seats
2 Porsche 996 adjustable seat mounts for above seats w/seat belt receptacles
2 sub belt mount bars for above seat mounts
Schroth Profi II HANS 6pt harness (2013)
Schroth Profi II 6pt harness (2013)
2 18x8 997 Carrera III wheels for front with 235/40 Nitto NT1 tires (~70% tread left)
2 18x10 997 Carrera III wheels for rear with 275/35 Nitto NT1 tires (~70% tread left)
996 GT2 brake ducts (996-341-117-90)
AIM MXL2 dash (harness modified for install in 996 by TCDesign)
It took the previous owner of my faux RS $70K (and that was 13 year ago prices) to get it where it is a couple seconds/lap quicker than the pointy end of the Spec Miata grid at Laguna. So we can now pick up a throwaway 996 AND outfit it past for just what minimal mods on a 993/964 will set you back. Yeah, yeah, 996. But you're out there to drive, not rub one out.
Let's just now enjoy them as enthusiast level street sports cars.

I would like to know where you guys that think it is a $30K car are finding deals. Yes, the wheels aren't stylish, and there is some wear on soft parts, but $30k???? Not happening.
Assuming it doesn't have wreck history, and mechanicals look ok in a PPI, it is a mid $40s car all day.

There are a rather large number of potential service items that come up on these cars as they pass 80K miles. Most are easy DIY fix when needed. Looking at a used car with these miles I think the service items you want to know about are:
Have the struts been replaced?
Have the lifters been replaced?
Has the clutch been replaced?
Has the steering rack been rebuilt?
Has the car encountered the clogged air injector issue yet. A Dealer may have fixed this in warranty a long time ago.
Although chrome wheels look scary on a 993, they don't scare me away just because the previous owner didn't excersize my tastes when they were first put on.
This particular car is over priced. Cars that sit on lots for a long time run up the dealers cost to own and in many cases the sales staff are reluctant to sell them because this situation has eaten into sales commission paid out. If you really want to counter offer with a reasonable price you will need to speak to the dealership's General Manager as the Sales Manager usually has a limited scope for which he can deal.
