Yeah, but what's a track beast? These day, say at Laguna, anything slower than 1:35-6 is getting to be pretty pedestrian. Kinda why the faux RS is mothballed, and likely to never return as a track car. 1:40 doesn't cut it anymore, at 993/964 prices.
Let's just now enjoy them as enthusiast level street sports cars.

It took the previous owner of my faux RS $70K (and that was 13 year ago prices) to get it where it is a couple seconds/lap quicker than the pointy end of the Spec Miata grid at Laguna. So we can now pick up a throwaway 996 AND outfit it past for just what minimal mods on a 993/964 will set you back. Yeah, yeah, 996. But you're out there to drive, not rub one out.

I agree with your sentiments Ken. I went in a slightly different direction for track weapon (300whp Miata built by TCD). I love keeping the 993 as a hot street car. Given it's weight and value it the best use for it. The Miata on the other hand is faster, cheaper and far less stressful to track. Disposable is a good word for it.

Interesting that the "real" race car is easiest. I agree 100%. A real race car is almost always the overall cheapest and easiest way to go fast on the track. Low weight (race car low weight - not a pig heavy converted street car) is the ticket to happiness.

I Am thinking 38 +
get a Dealer VIN Service History
Points to bring ASK Down - NOT Original - Cheapo Mods to sell- waste of Money by seller
-$3 No Records Needs ALL Services Up to date
Pos is New Clutch
- $2K for the Bumper Cover
- $1k Rims - r they 996 or was there a 17 chrome 993
- Stereo
FF YOU ARE NOT DIY SAVVY - DOING THE WORK - THEN DOUBLE REPAIRS
Then as said already There Are better cars Available for less.
Depends on originality? Needs to be PPI Verified by the right person. A 993 Specialist.
Then if iit passes PPI - Next Compression and Leekdown Numbers must be Good - re Mileage
Make Offer Conditional on you obtainging Inspections and Financing to your Satisfaction
Otherwise the agreement is Null and Void and the deposit will be returned to the buyer in full within 48 hours of expiration.
Get the Facts - Renegotiate if Necessary or Walk Away.
