FWIW, when I bought my 964 from Rockville Porsche 16 years ago, they had absolutely no problem with me bringing it to Porsche of Arlington for the PPI. Them having an issue with you getting a PPI is a huge red flag.

It does look like a neglected example, but nothing that $5-7k with Jose Herceq at Autobahn in Fairfax can't fix (assuming no engine, transmission or other major issues). I would bring it to Jose for the PPI, use the results to knock down the price and have Jose do the work (no affiliation).

I had no problem fitting my son in a rear-facing baby seat in the back seat of my 964 when he was 6 months old, although I had to put the passenger seat all the way forward (which made it hard for my wife to join us), but being able to give Mommy a break was a good thing (you'll see). Once he turned 1, I put him in a forward-facing baby seat and my wife had more leg room. He loved it then and still loves the car (he's now 6).

To the OP, there's a blue/black early MY95 coupe with PSS9's and a regeared transmission for $42,00 as well as some other great mods on Pelican. If I was in the market this example would be under serious consideration. In addition to how it's sorted, I looked long and hard for a blue/black combination. It seems a majority of blue exteriors have grey, tan or blue interiors.

This was (or is) the owners car. I remember seeing it 15 years ago running around SIR south of Seattle and that car was run very hard. It was sideways more often than not and pushed as hard as it could possibly go. Not the fastest it could go, but the hardest it could go. The owner looked like he was having a blast but I always felt a little sorry for the car. I know they can take it, its what they are made for.

It was heavily modified at that time, not sure if it still is or if all the mods have been backed out.

Agree with others:
1. Paint is wrong, no '95 had clear coat.
2. Wheels are wrong, & caps are chewed up.
3. Windshield molding, what lurks beneath?
4. Cracking seals/gaskets - on a 64k mile car? Mine has 59k and the exterior gaskets and molding are mint.
5. Engine out for gaskets, etc., but no new mounts? At a Dealer, no less! Who does that??
6. Carfax looks phony.
7. Possible title wash.
8. Won't allow PPI - WTF?


Forget this car - so many other loved and cherished ones out there for you.


Last recommendation - come up to Hershey in April 2017! There, you will see outstanding 993s, what a nice car really looks like. And there's an owner with an absolutely spectacular Turbo that shows up with perfect paint - that's what REAL 993 paint looks like!! Who knows, you might find a nice one there for sale, or run into someone who knows of a nice car!

OP here, apologies for the slow response and thank you all for your thoughtful feedback (even if it hurt me to read!). Given all of the above, I definitely took a hard pass on the car I posted and I think I have decided that a proper 993 (and one that fits my current needs) is probably a bit out of reach at the moment. While I may be able to afford something at the bottom-end of the market, given my lack of space/time/background, the car would probably sit in the shop, cost me $$$, and be a source of stress rather than as a fun weekend release.


But, just to take a step back and clarify, part of my intention in seeking out an aircooled car is aspirational! I know that these cars take work and that I wasn't born with a wrench in my hand, but I got to start somewhere! I have loved these cars (the airecooled 911s, not just 993s) since I was a little kid and I have always wanted to learn about them, work on them, drive them and I hope that I can do all of these things with my own son! However, I fully admit that (as pertains to the car I initially posted) my eyes were bigger than my mouth.


So with all that being said, and at the risk of veering off from the 993 path, what are your suggestions? I think ideally (and as noted above) I need to find a model for which a good, well loved and maintained example is something that I can afford (unlike the flee-bitten dog I originally posted). The car has to be in good enough shape that, or the model need not otherwise require, all regular maintenance can be performed by a local trusted mechanic (I have found this place http://www.tifsforeign.com/ in Annapolis, MD; feel free to steer me somewhere else) at long enough intervals that I wont go completely broke or never get to drive the car.
