Move on and save your money. Like others have said buy a 996 or 997. Unless you have deep pockets, a trusted Porsche Independent mechanic.... the car will drain your bank account. Porsche Labor Rate is $160 per hour and most Porsche shops have zero idea when it comes to the old Classics. This is the hard part with this car since it's Air / Oil Cooled and 20+ years old....finding a good independent Porsche mechanic. Keep in mind this car is 21+ years old. Seals probably need replaced, gaskets, shocks, who the hell knows. As the saying goes....purchase with the most money can afford when it comes to a 993. This car appears to me to have been beat to hell and back.

If you were a "wrench" and had plenty of time on your hands, this car would be a good project at around $35,000-$37,500. The dealer's $8,000 is at retail. They only spent a fraction of that. Just my guesstimate but you'd be spending another $5-$8,000 to have someone put this car into shape. I concur with those above who've suggested a nice 996 that's had the IMS and RMS fixed. You'll spend less than the asking price of this car.

If your budget is 50k I wouldn't give up on your dream of a sorted air cooled 911 if that is what you want. I don't think the one you found is the one though.

Check out this one in the classifieds. You may or may not want a black cab, but this ad/car reads way better at first glance to me than the red one. No affiliation.

I'm also not convinced a 996 or 997 is going to be any cheaper to maintain than a similarly sorted 993 for your intended purpose as a weekend driver.

Pass- That car's been through the ringer. Wheels are not original- and cheaply replaced. The paint is not original either. Guards red didn't come with a clear coat- it's a single stage paint job. Something is not right. It shows like a LOT more miles that 64K. And where is the rest of the Car Fax? it's missing the last 6 years. There is NO reputable dealer out there that would deny you a PPI prior to purchase. It's your expense and they can deliver the car to your requested shop. Walk on by. There are much better cars out there.

If the dealer won't allow you to take the car to an independent mechanic for a PPI, I'd be doing the Forrest Gump run outta there quicker than your head could spin.

There are a lot of 993's out there. None are gonna be inexpensive. You can get a cheaper one and throw lots of money at it afterwards, or pay more upfront and get a nicer one at the start. I'd go with the latter.

Good luck; the hunt can be part of the fun. I'd strongly suggest buying a loved one from the Rennlist classifieds rather than a dealer relic.

This alone is a huge deterrence.

You can do better with a $50k budget. This car looks a little rough, and that's through iPhone pictures. I imagine it's much worse in person. Good luck.

Pass on this one and keep searching for a better 993.....dealer should have fixed all cosmetic damage to max out the price as 993 that are in good cosmetic shape are going for 59-69 at Porsche dealers in Atlanta with similar mileage. I agree with some posters that the mileage seems low for internal and external condition and we know that odometers in 993 failed and some owners may have left them alone for some time......and paid off inspectors, indy shops, etc. to post mileage, etc...

I would never buy a car from Rockville Porsche / Audi....Not new and definitely not used. If your sure the 993 is the right car for you, wait it out and find a nice car from an enthusiast in a private sale.

Now is the time to buy a aircooled car, be patient grasshopper and congrats on the little one !

Maybe a 997.2 would better suit you. Cold AC, warm heat, near conventional sized interior and safety. A friend of mine just went from a 997 to a 993 and although he loves the car I'm not sure it was a truly good decision. He's done lots of catch up maintenance and he's pretty handy and it's still probably putting a dent in his wallet.
DING DING DING! These things are great cars--but are now vintage equipment. There is nothing wrong with daily driving one if you have a couple years of experience with them, and can diagnose faults by the sound, smell, and feel. If you want one for a weekend car that is ok too--but I'd think about how much time and money you want to spend making it right (and keeping it there), vs. riding around with your wife and kid.
