Default punture holes in cab roof...

Morning Guys. Had a new roof installed and I dont want a repeat of the guide pins punturing holes in my new expensive roof. What mechanism /cable is there which causes the canvas to fold outwards and avoid the pins ? Thx in advance.

There is an updated pin which is a little shorter. I had my installer glue an extra leather piece under the top surface where the pin would touch. It is hidden by the headliner.

Regards,

.

There is an arm that is pulled on by a couple of elastic straps that forces the top to fold out instead of in. i manually operate my roof and make sure the arm sits properly while retracting the roof.

Cemoto, Thanks for this info, somehow I missed hearing about this update. Is this new pin needed for all model years (95-98) or did later years have the shorter pin installed? Any part # available? I went to manual on my 97 years ago just to avoid this problem.

As vincer77 mentioned, there are no cables just 2 elastic straps to pull the bar back. Unfortunately they lose some of their elasticity with time.
I would also be very interested in shorter, less menacing guide pins! My roof has matching holes on each side that have patches glued on from the inside. They've done a good job of sealing the holes but you can still see them : (

There is a TSB for an elastic piece, and accompanying brackets and screws than need to be retrofitted.
The upshot is that the elastic is to pull the arm back, to move the roof out of the way of the guide pins so that it doesn't get pierced.
The elastic is to be adjusted every year or so through the brackets to maintain tension so that the arm is always pulling the roof out of the way.
Let me know if you can't find the specific TSB and I will find.

Did the same and it worked for more than 10 years. In addition, I replaced the elastic strap that was completely worn. Not sure what I bought but I remember sewing it in.
