Thanks for the compliments. They really do nice work at Mike's Auto Body (and this is the new Mike).

I always struggle with the 993 being too nice to track, but in the end she's too nice NOT to track. Plan next is to install some proper race seats and six point harnesses, and get the suspension refresh done. "Miles to go before I sleep." Oh and yes, first thing next spring will be a full XPel wrap for the front bumper, hood and front fenders. It's much easier getting the track debris off your car when it's wrapped properly.

Ginch, if you look at the photos in my thread on Turbo S Scoops, the gap in the front hood appears to be the same. https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...installed.html And I'd be quite contented if it stays that way.

While having the bumper redone I toyed with the idea of doing the hood, and front fenders, and doors, and rear fenders, and....... Since the car looks pretty good as is, I decided to forego the expense at this time until there is more justification. I agree with others, yours looks too nice to track now.
KeninBlaine, I guess my guy got lucky because he only had to respray the bumper twice. But he purchased a brand new $6,000 plastic welding unit before having a second go at it. The first try with with bumperette delete plugs underneath for support went badly, and they were determined to make it look right. So they laid some aluminum down underneath and filled the gaps with the plastic welder. Here's a few photos right before the second respray. They really did a nice welding job.

My bumper respray last summer ended up a hood, both front fenders and drivers door- feathered into rear quarters and new stone guards! Super glad I did it tho!!

I'm also a big fan of shaved bumperettes and washer nozzles. Would love to do it to my car one day...

Your logical mind wanted a low-cost touch-up, your emotional mind wanted the entire car repainted. They fought over it and met somewhere in the middle. A common Porsche ownership dilemma.

Do you have pictures prior to look and compare to the gap between the hood and bumper? If it is different, now is the time to rectify it.

SwayBar,

I posted a link to a thread with prior photos, but here's a before and after for you. It looks like my car has always had a sizable gap between the hood and bumper, so nothing really to rectify.

Onami, LOL on the "Fixman". Aptly named.

Hi Jim,

The body work and respray really look nice. Your paint guy knows his stuff. I recently went trough s similar experience. Took the car in to have the front and rear bumper covers resprayed due to an "oh oh" on the rear cover and a zillion rock chips and scrapes on the front cover (car has over 110k miles on it). In the end, I ended up with both fenders and the hood resprayed to blend everything in and to eliminate the rock chips in the hood as well. While at it, I had them do the bumperett delete which is something I would recommend to all 993 owners of USA 993's. My body guy used a plastic welder to add filler pieces in the space left by removal of the bumperettes and for the front license plate mounting holes. Worked out great, as did the respray. Being Arena Red, I was concerned about the match to the rest of the car. The match is almost perfect, and certainly fine for my driver which I plan on putting lots of miles on over the coming years. And, my painter did not indicate any issues with painting the repaired front cover.

Looks real nice!

Hopefully you found and fixed the cause of the rub.

Thanks Al!

We fixed the camber, but the suspension is still too soft and the car sits too low. The car won't be tracked again until the suspension refresh is completed, with lowering kit removed and car raised up to RS height. Current thinking is: Bump steer kit with RS wheel carriers (on back order), MCS shocks with 600/800 springs, RS rear A arms, RS kinematic control arms, elephant racing hard rubber bushings for front control arms, and solid side mounts. I'm looking forward to having the car properly set for a new season at Palmer Motorsports!
