Actually the more I talk to Protosport and some of their customers the more I like this path. Even the Stage 1 done by them has a zillion success stories. Only failure seems to be a DIY.

Next time you are at NJMP, feel free to reach out. I would be happy to give you a ride around town in the car.
Are you close to Philly, or more inland? I'd love to take you up on that.

I live in Philly, but the cars are in south NJ about half way between the Walt Whitman Bridge and the Millville exit just off RT55. I'm there a few nights a week lately anyway working on the 964. Shoot me an email next time you are in the area at tjb616@gmail.com.

A note in response to some prior posts; the non-VR car kits came with larger intercoolers from Protomotive. The kit I bought came with a non-VR intercooler and it made its way onto the 97 VR 993. We made it work with some minor trimming of an OEM 993 Turbo S wing, so you can use the non VR intercooler even if you have VR car, and I'd go as far as to recommend doing so for anyone considering the kit with a later 993. I'm laying in bed at the moment but I will snap a pic of the fitment and trimming and post it here later.

Jos,

In order to fit the larger I/C in my car with the VR engine we had to set it further back which required modifying my tail. The RS tail fits around a stock 964 turbo I/C but as you can see it slops inward considerably compared to a 993TT tail. We measured and needed to move the back wall further out by about 1.75" still far less than how a normal 993TT tail sits so you might be okay without modifying it.

I ended up with the smaller IC due to this. If given the choice I would have modified the inside of the decklid to fit the larger IC. I will end up making another IC down the road at some point. Right now IAT's don't warrant the effort here in NorCal.

Glad to see more happy boosted VRAM owners!

Nothing wrong with DIY but you should be honest about your level of understanding before diving in. I don't care if you're upgrading cams, adding turbos or just a chip, you should always confirm AF ratios are where they're suppose to be. Logging knock events and misfires will also tell you if the engine is happy.

We have become spoiled with PNP flashes on newer cars with wideband O2's and sophisticated knock control. The 993's have somewhat primitive fuel injection feed back circuits by comparison. Because of that a canned "tune" may behave differently in each vehicle. Companies like Protosport know this and check/adjust accordingly. I refined my tune by logging it and working with Todd at Protomotive on re-calibrations. It could not be more dialed in!

Sure looks bigger than mine. I figured they could squeeze a bigger one under there.

Not sure how I feel about the design of the intercooler and intake manifolds but the exhaust manifolds look awesome and it looks really well done!

No such thing as a guaranty with any build like this but since a GT3 doesn't cut it for your needs I would be all over a stage 1 tuned for double duty. It should be a good experience and not too much of a departure from what you are used to. If i can find another donor tub I would build my track car all over stage 1 but in street form and sell my C2.

Best luck and happy holidays.

Thanks, Anthony. If I were 100% sure of the stage 1 and track I'd do in a heartbeat. I'm not yet certain, though our conversation helped.

Too bad it isn't track season i wold let you take mine for a spin. Although yours would be a bit less extreme and far less db.

I might end up taking you up on that in the spring. Not sure I'm going to be able to get my car to Protosport for an eval with winter coming.
