Default Time for a Battery - Optima vs Avg Mait free type?

It's time for a new battery.

Any reasons for or against going with the Optima vs a Sear's Die Hard or NAPA maint free battery?

I have read threads mentioning Red Top Optima. Is there another version Optima?

Weight isn't a huge concern and I would store the car in the winter. (I live in the Northeast and no heat in the garage) I plan to start up the car and take it out for exercise when the roads are OK 1-2x/mos.

I was also planning on hooking up a trickle charger w/ auto shut off and I didn't know if this would be necessary with the Optima.

Would I be better off pulling the battery, storing inside with the trickle charger. Would the Optima hold up better in the cold if I didn't pull it inside so starting the car wouldn't be such an endeavor hauling it in back and forth each time?

Any thoughts?

I also went with the Red Top Optima and am very happy with it. I would recommend it as it is a no maintenance and sealed and therefore you won't have any acid leaks ruining the front trunk area. I think the Die Hards may be no maintenance, but aren't sealed and can leak.

Something like that...There is much info in the archives.

jeff,

thx for that link. I searched all over this site and couldn't find the info you just provided.

How would I have found this? I looked under 993 FAQ and found no electrical stuff.

Looks like RedTop Optima for me.

That FAQ is my personal faq. It hasn't been integrated into Rennlist yet. There are plans to do that in the future, but I haven't really found the time yet. If you think you'd like to write a few articles for the FAQ to help flesh it out more, let me know. You can email me at: jchan@mywhine.com

I just got the Optima red. Could have saved 20 bucks with another, but it seemed the best of the bunch.
