Hi everyone. I have a 96 993 turbo with 80K miles. I have been on this site, but has been a while. My problem is the following: a few days ago I was in a drive thru spray car wash and immediately after that the engine missed a few times (maybe a minute) and then ran/felt normal again. The "check engine" light then came on and has stayed on. I was fifty miles from home and drove this distance with no issues. All gauges are normal and oil level is normal. I get the car serviced at Jackie Cooper Porsche in Tulsa as I live near Fort Smith, AR. Tulsa is about 2.5 hours away. I can trailer the car to the Tulsa , but time is limited for me. Any help/insight is appreciated. Do you guys think it is likely to hurt the car to drive it?? Thanks so much. Nathan
That is funny and true! All maintenance up to date. Will get codes read if I can figure how to do it. Can I get this at a parts store? Not much of a mechanic; generally pay to keep up and then drive it! I don't have any local Porsche mechanics. Thanks
Im thinking most likely misfire codes due to the ingress of moistue...
As things have dried out and are currently running fine, I would have the codes read and reported for knowledgeable comment on RL.
Me, based upon your initial report and my stated suspicions; I'd reset the code(s) if misfire and currently running well; then drive the car for a good while to dry things out completely to see if they reappear.
Well, I drove the car about 100 miles and running great and light still on, but not flashing. To show how brilliant I am not, I stopped by the parts store and neither them nor I knew where the "reader connection" was. So I still don't have the codes. I didn't check to see what bar did, but turbo seems normal...very good pull. Thanks guys. And no more "tunnel car washes"!

IIRC, it's right under the dash below the steering column. Has a black cover over it. Might even say "OBD" on it.
Okay, here is the deal. The OBD port was right where you guys said. I went back to the parts store and code read to show a miss on cylinder 6. We cleared the code and I drove about 5 miles home and has stayed off thus far. Car is running strong and easily got to 0.8 bar. I am suspicious that a plug wire got wet in the car wash as you suggested (I hope the Porsche gods are thru with me for now!). I will see if CEL stays off. I would like to get an "OED reader" and certainly open to suggestions. Thanks for the help!

Willing to bet my car for your car, this is the case!
Multiple threads in rennlist about ODBII readers. I got the Innova 3130 a few years back, works well on Europe models including Porsche. Have read and reset multiple codes (BMW, smart, mini, Porsche, etc) over the years. Piece of mind to read the code and know what is up. Some are easy repairs. Google code to find possible fixes.
