Default 89' Anniversary

Greetings -- I recently sold my 97' 993 and am looking at an 89' anniversary edition 911. Great looking car -- is the fact that it's an anniversary worth anything at all? Only difference I see is the interior seat piping and a different center console. Any advice, particularly what I should keep my eye's open for, would be appreciated.

Hi Jeff - I have an 89 aniversary 911 coupe. Mine is silver, but a few coupes(120 world wide were diamond blue, about 40 world wide were diamond blue cab's). There are a few other "differences" such as the carpet in the trunk. Mostly the differences is that they came with "everything" such as the spoilers, color matched wheels and such. Mine has about 79000 miles and I have owned for about 5 years. Paid 26.500 from an independent dealer in FLA. These cars are worth about 10% more according to the various magizines ( i.e. Anderson's coulmn in Excellence). As to what to look for - the same as all - do a PPI, have them see if the car has had the clutch update and watch out for bad valve seals. Other cautions apply as to all 89 911's. I'm located in NM most of the time but my 911 is in MD. Have a 97 cab here in Los Alamos. Let me know if you have more questions via a private email. Good luck!

Jeff,

Just to clarify, there were no "Diamond Blue" '89 Silver Anniversary cars. Those were the '88 Commemorative Editions (250,000th 911).

All of the '89 Silver Anniversary cars came in only silver or the rarer satin black metallic.

Good luck,
Tim

correct. I used to have a 1988 comemorative. They do tend to get confused with the 89 silver anniversary cars

diamond blue is a great color IMO...I am a little skewed though. If you search the 911 archives you will see different opinions on value etc.

All things being equal bot the commerative and anniversary cars should command a 5-10% premium.

Thanks all for the information. I have a pleasant choice. The 89' we're kicking around or an 85' that is completely stock. The 85' has a 15K more miles and of course, no G50 trans. These are the good decisions in life to be faced with -- should be fun. Thanks again for the info.

Jeff,
I owned an '89 silver anniversary coupe (in silver) for 4 years, and I absolutely loved it.
With the paint-to-match Fuchs, the full linen leatherw/black piping and the leather 930 console, IMO it was the best looking old body style 911 ever produced.

Of course it had the dreaded valve-guide wear issue, which was the only problem I had with it.

As long as the car isn't burning up it's oil, (look in the rearview mirror under heavy acceleration) I'd buy that car in a second!!
