Can you turn drilled rotors??
HAving my 95 993 brade pads replaced and I fear they are going to tell me I need rotor work. The shop says they don't normally turn the rotors, ".. they are to thin ...".
Anybody have experience with whether they can be turned once if they haven't been done previously?
Thanks.

I was chatting with Mark Dalen last week and he said that it could be done, even though it's not officially recommended. Maybe he will see this and elaborate.

Steinel's in Cleveland had turned mine and they were fine. Their opinion was that you could do that one time, as long as you do not need to remove much material. It extends the life of the rotors a bit (one track weekend).

Not on the SAME rotor I SINCERELY hope...

Seriously, would surprise me if you can really turn/cut them; I think the difference between full thickness and minimum thickness is only a mm or so - not much room to do any cutting.

I had my rear rotors turned about 20K miles ago when the fronts were replaced. They are still ok.

My cars previous owner had the rotors "resurfaced" (turned) to eliminate brake squeal. They were still within the factory specs when the job was done. They've held up fine for another 10k miles, 2 auto-x's and 2 track days so far.

LOL! No, not the same rotors. I've got 60k miles, and a lot of which were on the track, so I've had lots of rotors. I think every set but one had enough meat left to have them turned.
