Default Those of you who have had a bad clutch slave.

I was just in my car so it is fresh in my mind. Sometimes pushing the clutch in is a bit tougher. Other times it feels lighter to push in, less resistance. It squeeks too. Is that symptomatic for a bad clutch slave? TIA

Maybe. But you should go ahead and flush it. Then see how it feels.

Randy,

My clutch feels the same way. Sometime nice and soft like the C4S and the TT, but sometime it feels very heavy.

When it feels heavy I tell myself that it is in the RS clutch mode... (stock clutch)

Don't replace it unless it starts clicking when depressed. Mine did and
replacing the slave cured it. This saved me $2000 since my tech thought it
was the clutch. If anything try bleeding the clutch slave the next time you
bleed the brakes.

Arrrgh. Mine started sticking this week. I'll try the lube and bleed this weekend.

If you haven't already seen it, there is a DIY on p-car.com to fix the non-returning clucth problem:

Sometimes I can feel a 'bump' in the clutch pedal when it is depressed or released. Its only occasional though. Sometimes when I push the clutch in there is a very minimal amount of resistance, so much less than usual that it is startling. I may have an opportunity to use a lift this weekend to put on my mufflers. If I can use this lift I'm thinking about flushing the slave. The brakes are probably due as well. Belts are showing some cracking too so I may do the pulley update as well. I may be a busy bee this weekend. Looking forward to it though.
